What do I spot out of the corner of my eye when having a wander in the city ? City designers market which was born out of the old Aotea Square markets, how I miss those ! A shared space between Ribbon on a bombshell, Chelsea Gale clothing and Hannah Morgan with their astute use of fabrics you’ll be sure to find some key pieces here . They also have a small jewellery collection, but are only open Friday and Saturday as they design and sew during the week . Come along you’ll be pleasantly intrigued.

Next time you’re on High Street in the city, when you get to Freyberg Square go up and explore the little shop next to Pumpkin Patch. Here you’ll find City Designers and it is home to some great local fashion designers. A collective effort from six designers including Harriett Falvey who designes really pretty dresses(including actually nice bridesmaids dresses). I wore and wore one of her dresses a few years back(which I purchased on a visit to Auckland before I moved here) and got so many comments on it. These designers previously had a boutique on Ponsonby Rd called Six but this has recently closed down. The City Designers Market is open Friday and Saturday. Support local fashion and look awesome. They also have a small jewellery selection.

City Designers Market? Somebody hold me back! But really, don’t. When I took a friend here for the first time she was really annoyed — «This is the place I’ve been looking for the whole time I’ve lived in Auckland!». If you ask me, she should have just been grateful and bought me something really generous to thank me of ending her shopping woes. The Market is such a blessing for those of us who don’t venture up to Ponsonby Road very often, because here’s where to buy Ribbon on a Bombshell(my favourite for their quirky prints and excellent sales), along with Chelsea Gale Clothing, Harriett Falvey, Hannah Morgan, Selector, and Shelley D. Sadly, sadly, you only get to catch the Market on a Friday or a Saturday. Sad face. But wallet is relieved.
