‘Countdown’ supermarkets are definitely value for money. I enjoy going to this supermarket located on Richmond Road, that has a suburban-feel nestled in residential Grey Lynn, close to Farro & Richmond Road Café. They have a great wine selection, no bakery as such, always great specials and the staff are generally pleasant and helpful. There is a Westpac ATM conveniently outside, parking at close proximity to entrance, and good opening hrs. You can also shop online and have your groceries delivered(to your home) when it suits you!

Never again to visit this store, they refused to open a 12 items or less counter and tried to force me to use the self service lane. I put my goods down and walked out. I think we as a nation should be standing up against big business like this, they are taking jobs away from everyday kiwi people by forcing self service, they don’t pack the groceries for me, they didn’t give me a discount and yet they want to pay less staff to do the job and make us scan our own products and pack the goods. They did this to me a year ago in countdown Westgate. They say they don’t force people to use the self service lane and yet they don’t give us an option. Ive never been back to this store in westgate and now I won’t be returning to this store either. I’ll be continuing my shopping at Pak’n’Save and New World. Come on everyone lets stand up to these big companies and let them know it was the staff that got them to where they are now, don’t let them take jobs away by making it self serve. Just to make it known I don’t work at any of these store’s, I just think its rotten what they are doing to the workforce in NZ

This market has everything. It is similar to a Ralph’s in the US, but with the prices of a Pavilion’s. $ 2.99 for one Kumara potato?! I think not. They make it seem like it’s going out of style. Last time I checked the Kumara is a national favorite in New Zealand and grown in abundance. Simple economics will teach us, the higher availability of a product the lower the cost. Whoa! I just surprised myself with that braniac nonsense. Anywho, I give this market three stars first because of the excellent customer service. When I scoffed at the price of the Kumara at the self-check out, a cashier came to my aid(agreed with me that the prices were high), removed the charge from my tally, smiled then said have a great evening. Second star is because it has a place for you to secure your dog. Titus likes this. Star number three is for the proximity to other shops and that it stays open til midnight. Even with all of that, I still believe it’s worth heading back to Mt. Eden for the KCLoo fresh market. The produce is fresh and prices are much better.
