Been here 3 or 4 times now and always enjoy it. The food is yummy, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Menu seems to have changed though, and the Pad Thai I had last time I went wasn’t as good as I remembered it, and the prawns seemed to be missing from the dish, which I remembered from the dish the last time I had it– I asked, and the waitress quickly bought me out three prawns in a little dish to add to my meal– oh well, better than nothing! Hubby’s meal was delicious though, and despite the prawn mix-​up, my Pad Thai was still very yummy, as was our entrée. Well priced, a nice place, and we will definitely go back!

There are three reasons I went to this place.
1) It looks wonderfully themed.
2) People always recommend it.
3) $ 10 lunches for quality thai food. Bargain.
It delivered in all three areas. There’s a reason why people recommend it: whether it’s the moody, Eastern ambience, the great service or the mouth-​watering dishes, The Elephant is really a great place to eat. Especially at lunch time when you can try your favourite dishes without having to worry about breaking the bank.
I especially like the elephant theme going on — seriously a great idea! Give this place a try sometime if you’re out in Howick for the afternoon.

Standard but delicious Thai food. Like most Thai places the staff are dressed traditionally, the décor is appropriate and the food comes out quickly. There’s nothing that particularly stands out, although the the friendly staff are happily willing to accept your request of taking silly photos of you and your visiting out-​of-​town friends. Because, you know, Instagram It Or It Didn’t Happen. You can BYO here (with corkage fee) and usually it’s quiet so it’s safe to turn up without a booking. They’re also open for lunch Tuesday to Saturday so you can get your Thai fix at half the price.
