I had a wonderful breakfast here. Every thing was cooked well and there was a great selection. Price was pretty reasonable.

I really don’t see what all the negative reviews have been about this place. We had our work function a few days ago there and found that the food was fresh and we’ll presented and consistent replenished. I have never seen so many dessert options in one place a kids fantacy. The servers were always on hand to clear plates from table and assist when asked. The reception was extremely helpful when one of our staff lost their parking ticket they assisted in helping to get a replacement one avoiding additional charges and did I mention they were always smiling. I think people that have given a poor rating are either expecting a fine dining buffet experience or expecting too much due to the location of the resurant in sky city.

I have been to Fortuna four times now and each visit has been good. Most recent visit was a few months’ ago for a work function. We were going to see the show ‘Hairspray’ at SkyCity Theatre, so this made it the perfect place for dinner. The food is very average compared to the buffet at Eight at The Langham, but it is cheap at only $ 29.90 for an «all you can eat» buffet dinner. Fortuna has four food stations: Salad & Seafood Bar, Soup & Bread Station, Meats and Sides and Desserts. Some of the savoury menu items include: pasta/potato salad, shrimp, mussels, sushi(not very nice though), soups, range of breads, lamb shanks, Moroccan chicken, chilli mince and all the toppings to make your own nachos, ham off the bone, pizzas and roasted vegetables. But the real deal is definitely the desserts! Think chocolate mousse, pink lamingtons with cream, cheesecake, chocolate mud cake, Pavlova, crème caramel, jelly, soft-serve ice cream, sweet sauces and sprinkles to go on top, plus cheeses, crackers, tea, coffee and hot chocolate etc. Great for kids and adults who love dessert! To me, a slice of Pavlova with chocolate mousse and sprinkles takes me back to my childhood! I rarely eat these sorts of desserts nowadays, so it is a nice treat! As for the service, well, it was okay. Most of our group had wine with their meals. The waiter brought out mismatching wine glasses for everybody, which was strange. In addition, we had to wait ages for waters, and the waiter never refilled them. It was also interesting because we hardly saw our waiter for the rest of the night. There was really only one staff member visible — the chef behind a counter slicing the ham off the bone. Overall, I recommend coming here if you are going to a show at the SkyCity theatre and want to have a reasonably cheap night out. However, I would still be willing to pay more for the buffet at Eight Restaurant, because the majority of the food at Fortuna just does not live up to the hype.

It met my expectations, but being that it’s a buffet breakfast in a large hotel, my expectations weren’t high so it’s probably not saying much. If I was not staying at the Sky City Hotel I would not have dined here and it is not likely I would return if not staying at the hotel again.

Its amazing after 10 years of horrible food this restaurant can still keep its doors opened. I had lunch and dinner buffet here. The hot food was dried and tasted as if it were cooked two days ago and someone decided to microwave it hot. The salad was pretty standard and the dessert was absolutely mediocre. The chocolate pudding tasted like baby food. Little jelloshot looking like cheesecake was like eating soap melted in water. I was here with a large group and most of the people shared similar thoughts on the food. Don’t go!

Hmm had breakfast here this morning. It’s a pretty decent buffet. Bacon, eggs, fruit, all that you’d expect. However. Everything I had was cold. Cold eggs. Cold bacon. Cold sausages. I won’t risk trying it again. If you happen to get it while it’s hot, I’m guessing it would be pretty good. I didn’t however :( Oh well tomorrow is another day and another breakfast adventure.

As far as buffet restaurants go, you could do a lot worse than Fortuna. Nestled down in the bottom of the Skycity complex, it’s a big airy restaurant with a large capacity which nonetheless is no guarantee of a seat given it’s popularity. Now if you don’t like buffet restaurants give it a miss — you’ll likely never get over your fear of food that’s been left out for ages. However, if you’re like me and all about bang for your buck, there aren’t many places this tastefully done that give you a cheap all-you-can-eat. The food always seems pretty fresh for a buffet(better than your local Valentines anyway), and the extensive range of meats are enough to satisfy even the dyed-in-the-wool meat lover. Perfect for big groups.

Fortuna is located in the middle of Skycity, a buffet restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. When I have been there it has been for dinner. Fortuna has everything from seafood, beef, garden salads, bread, and a large selection of desserts; the works. I have mixed reviews about this place as I am not a fan of buffet food and how it sits out in the open for hours on end, however if you have a large group to entertain you can never go wrong with all you can eat. The couple of times I have been to Fortuna the overall experience was good. However there was this one time my aunty and I asked for more mint for our mojitos and they handed us a mint plant which was rather interesting. I’m not complaining, after that we had plenty of mint in our mojitos. It was just a unique way to solve our problem. I probably wouldn’t recommend coming here if you’re after a nice/glam dining experience. But Fortuna is the perfect place to come if you’re after all you can eat for a reasonable price.

Fortuna was the venue for my 21st birthday dinner last year and I have been back a few times since. I’m a proud fan of their orzo salad and seafood selection, but they also provide a lot of options that make this a solid buffet restaurant. There is a lot of seating space but bookings are essential. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Fortuna really is value for money, particularly from Sunday to Thursday. The desserts bar has a bit of everything although I do wish they provided more flavours of ice cream(even chocolate would be nice!). Fortuna previously offered free soft drinks/ginger beer with meals, but they’ve followed in the footsteps of Valentines by charging for a bottomless glass you’re able to refill throughout your meal as you please. The staff are pretty efficient with clearing plates from ables, so don’t count on using the same plate more than once. Fortuna is a great place for families after a hassle-free meal, large groups and accommodates for most food preferences. Remember to get your parking validated there on your way out too!
