I have been to ‘Hue’ a couple of times now — love the concept of going into a ‘Hue’ salon to solely dye your hair, with no frills. What I mean by this is you need to blow-dry, style and straighten your own hair(before leaving) which is fine — if you have the right tools(hairbrushes) and suitable product/s to use. Both times I have been to ‘Hue’ the service is hum-ho. However, the colorist was excellent, for an affordable $ 80-$ 100 opposed to double that in a hair salon. I waited up to 30 minutes before the consult begun, so again improvements needed. Once they sort this issue, ‘Hue’ Ponsonby will be fab!

I went to Hue Balmoral as a new customer in July wanting to change to auburn global colour. As colour specialists I thought they were best to go to for this. I had a consult and chose a bright auburn colour yet left with dark chocolate with hints of red instead. I told them I wasn’t pleased as its brown not auburn and was told it’s the lighting and it’ll show up. I called a few weeks later to say it hasn’t come up and is just brown. Not a great response and don’t think I’ll be back. Disappointed.

I’m fresh to Auckland from Welly and after a bit of a hunt & ask around I decided to give Hue a whirl as it’s a really good price and I had good recommendations. I got half a head if blonde foils with Amelia for $ 110. The colour was excellent and Amelia gave a quick but good consultation at the start to ensure she understood what I wanted. I would recommend Amelia, she’s efficient, onto it and really good at blonde foils. The stylists don’t seem to chat much to their clients like you usually get in hair salons but I’m a fan of this — enough chat to make it personable but not so much that the already long appointment drags on. Another woman washed my hair and gave the best head massage I’ve ever had — so relaxing! You then move to the styling station where you dry and style you’re own hair — this is the first time I’ve done this and was a little wary but it was actually excellent, great products, GHDs and Wahl hair dryers. I booked in for my next appointment and got 10% for next time which is awesome. Hue is great value for money and a great concept to beat the crazy price it can cost to get your hair done these days. I think I’ve found my regular Auckland salon.

I really, really like Hue. It’s a cheap, easy and hassle free way to getting hid of my awful regrowth. They’re great because they just do colour, not cutting or blow drying or anything. This means that they are a lot cheaper than going to most hairdressers. I had been to them a few times and had really good results. But one time I wasn’t too happy with what they did. I asked for my ombré hairstyle to be filled in but they didn’t quite get what I wanted. I came back into the salon a little later and they fixed it up for me free of charge. They happily did this and worked with me to get what I wanted.

Giant roots are never a good look on blonde hair and mine have been growing ever larger for quite some time now, so I booked myself into this salon for a long overdue bleach and tone after the place was recommended to me by a friend. I’m really pleased with the colour itself(after being initially chastised by my colourist for leaving it so long to be treated) and the condition of my hair feels great. No complaints there. I just felt like the service was a bit impersonal. My colourist hardly spoke to me throughout the appointment, which I feel was a bit odd. I kinda thought that was part of a hairdresser’s job description? Chairside manner if you will, simple pleasantries to make you feel comfortable… Not here apparently. You also have to dry and style your own hair after the colour, which I didn’t have a problem with. I just wish it was reflected in the price slightly more. Other salons I was looking at for around the same price do this for you. My colourist also just left the salon while I was still in there, leaving someone else to process my payment. No word said to me; no goodbye or anything. I get that she wanted to go home but really, I don’t think it would have taken long to just say, «Bye. Hopefully see you next time,» would it?
