If Meadowbank Roast is my favourite roast shop, then this is a close second. Excellent roasts all round with crispy fresh potatoes and of course fantastic pork crackling! The only thing that stops this place getting 5 stars is the price. At $ 11.50−12 for a small it’s more expensive than other places for the same size meal.

Sometimes, I just fancy a roast. Most of the time, I can’t be bothered to make one. Hence why I’ve frequented quite a few of the takeaway roast places Auckland has to offer. When in Mount Wellington, only one place will do: Kings Roast. Don’t expect a particularly classy establishment; this place is one of those that feels immediately a bit cheap upon arrival. Think specials written in pen on the menu and not the slightest hint of ambience about the place. However, don’t let any of the above put you off. Kings Roast does great roasts. I went in recently and had a roll stuffed with lamb(they definitely don’t scrimp on the amount of meat they give you!) and a gorgeous mint sauce. I saw the guy caving the lamb and it was obviously really well cooked and still lovely and pink in the middle. The potatoes that came with it were also fantastic, really crispy and fresh tasty – no mean feat when they’re clearly not freshly prepared. In fact, the only thing that let the meal down was the lone kumara I had. This was cold, soggy and just downright disappointing. However, take this out of the equation and you’ve got yourself a damn good roast.
