This place is a chain — but definitely gets the job done on great pizza and great potato skins. They stay open super late and that is great if you are staying in the downtown Auckland area.

Cheap and cheerful! Our regular order: chicken and mushroom risotto, and a meat lovers pizza. And it always hits the spot, without beating on the wallet. It’s not gourmet, it’s not fine dining, but it’s not expensive either. The service could do with being more observant though we were out behind a wall and had to make eye contact with three servers before someone actually came to our table. But, you get what you pay for!

You could decide to view this place as a budget version of a nice restaurant, and if you did your experience dining at La Porchetta would be as about as good as that view would allow — just a very average meal. But instead of looking down on La Porchetta from a fine dining standard, I suggest you try to view it as a really well put together version of a cheap restaurant. Their price range accommodates this second view, a pizza at La Porchettas is the same price as what you would pay at most of the pizza fast food chain stores, and I actually think they taste a lot better. The restaurant itself is very casual, but clean and well presented, and I have had good experience with the service. It can be kind of loud and cafeteria like, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing if you just decide to go with some friends for a cheap meal — at least you do not have to watch your eating manners too closely.

Keep your expectations to the cheap and cheerful end of the scale, and you’ll get on just fine with La Porchetta. As a previous reviewer accurately described, the place has the ambiance of an American high school cafeteria. However, I highly doubt that anyone looking for dinner at this end of Hobson Street is going to care too much — it isn’t our swankiest strip! What La Porchetta does offer is pizzas in very large portions for very little money. They aint gourmet or wood fired, but they’re tasty as and for the price, you can’t complain. Bloody quick service too!

Oh La Porchetta, why you call yourself an Italian Restaurant will forever be a mystery to me. I mean yes you serve pizza and pasta but so does my mother and we don’t call her an Italian chef. Do not be deceived by the«Italian» décor in this restaurant or else you will be disappointed. As a lover of all things gnocchi, I was severely heartbroken when I was served so called potato gnocchi, I nearly gave up on life! I really shouldn’t complain because the price is extremely cheap. Plus they serve cookies & cream milkshakes with an Oreo on top of the whipped cream. Remember price and Oreo shake, this will make your evening pleasant.

When dining at La Porchetta on Hobson Street, I feel as though I’m dining in the high school cafeteria of an American sitcom. The seats are plastic and much of the other furnishings are rather budget, however there is an upside. The food is very cheap and very tasty. Fast service, friendly staff and large portions of good Italian pizza and pasta. Perhaps you shouldn’t bring a girl here for a date, unless it’s like the fifth date. By that time she probably already knows that you’re a cheapskate, so it won’t matter. La Porchetta is a good, cheap option if you have a large group for a birthday or some occasion like that. There’s usually a few of those going on, and they are usually loud!(high school cafeteria)
