We stumbled upon this market one Sunday morning when out and about. This is a little slice of south Auckland. The best value stuff is the fruit and veg and, to be honest, really the only thing worth going out of your way for. If you want cheap tools, cheap toys, cheap knock-off speakers, cheap shirts, etc this is where to come. In fact it’s really a big grotty, crowded outdoor dollar store! There is a wide variety of ethnicities there and — to be blunt — if you are of the Caucasian persuasion you will feel like you are in Apia or Nuku’alofa. Only difference being that the people are not as friendly at the Manurewa market as they are in the islands, and you may not want to linger; if you get my drift. All that said… well that’s about it really!

The Manurewa Markets are always busy and my dad always make the Sunday morning trip for our household fruits and vegetables for the week. Its located in the massive carpark right behind the block of Northcrest shops opposite Manurewa Central School. There’s tonnes of parking across the road behind Southmall, so it’s a short walk to get to. The markets provide your usual fare of market finds and some awesome stalls with Polynesian and Maori clothing and motif. There are also some amazing hot donuts(they’re just always better at markets) and other awesome Sunday morning breakfast foods. There are a lot of stalls to look through and I’d suggest getting in early– markets start at 7am and run until noon– to have your pick of the crop! You definitely feel the community vibe here, and all of the stallholders seems really friendly with eachother. If you’re passing through Manurewa, this is a great place to grab some local goods and produce(and yummy treats too!).

The Manurewa Markets basically turn a carpark into a market every Sunday with stalls stocking just about anything you can think of, in terms of food(fresh fruit & veg, hot food, ice cream, snackage, coffee) and other stuff(clothing, gifts, DVDs, shoes and more). It is a huge mixing pot of varied people, and a good place to sample a taste of the different cultures within Manurewa. A good place for a cheap buy, just don’t buy some branded stuff thinking its real, because it probably isn’t. Another gripe is that it can get really crowded, and hard to walk around.
