A great location in Grey Lynn for tapas and wine. I love that they have a good selection of Spanish wines and from regions other than New Zealand. That said there are still excellent Kiwi wines available too. The tapas are reasonable and quite tasty. Simple as it sounds i love there shoestring fries/chips. The atmosphere is tidy and a little funky and there are tables out back. Early in the evening it is quite kid friendly too

Mondial used to be the odd one out in Grey Lynn — a lavish tapas bar nestled amongst the dollar stores and fish ‘n’ chip shops. Mondial might even be part of the reason why so many new businesses and customers alike have taken interest in the area again after years of dilapidation. Mondial is generally pretty packed, particularly on the weekends, so if you’re looking for a quiet place to have a drink, you might need to find something a little less lively. But if jostling for position at the bar, listening to top tunes and sitting in low light is your kind of thing, Mondial should top your list of go-to establishments. If dinner is in order, choose from the array of tapas dishes that are listed on the wall. If drinks are in order, get amongst it at the bar or duck out to the sheltered garden for a giggly, rowdy time.

Mondial is pretty chill. It’s a nice little bar amidst the dirt and decay that is the Great North road section of Grey Lynn. They have this really great little courtyard thing out back which is honestly the best part of that shitty section of shops. It’s a great place to go with a group of friends or lovers or family or whatever. Just order a few delights(read«tapas») off of their little menu and share them around. I don’t really think the pricing is too extravagant. Pretty standard I’d wager. It’s cool. Four stars.

Mondial is this super cute wine bar that is perfect for dates. It’s also perfect for group meals and other kinds of meals but I thought it would be good to specify that is good for dates because lots of places aren’t. The food is tapas, so order to share. The calamari is very good. I haven’t ever ordered anything I didn’t like. The sangria is nice, better than average. The staff are also nice and better than average. The seating is limited — it’s small, but it’s cosy and you feel at home when you’re there. It’s in an odd kind of place — it’s very much a destination location, but it’s worth making the trip. Parking is easy.

I used to live down the road from Mondial and it became our local. Whether we wanted a quiet night, a lazy afternoon, a lively birthday party, or were just simply craving their calamari, it was always great. They do tapas, and they do them so well. Every kind of tapa you love, they probably have it. My heart leaps whenever I walk in the door and see that they’ve made up a batch of fresh sangria. It’s always rich, fruity and the best way to enjoy an evening. Mondial is slightly engulfed by the crazy Grey Lynn shops but when you’re out in their courtyard, you might as well be half way across the world. It’s intimate, cute and great night and day. Their staff are always really onto it and add a great aspect to the night. I’d totally recommend you go check it out, and if you’ve already been, go again!
