Lovely market! Come and get your ample fruit and veg, tasty hot coffee, pies, dolmades, dips, chicken pâté, beetroot relish(I bought that one, super yummy and reasonably priced at $ 3, or was it $ 4!?), and lots of other yummy things at this small but well packed in Sat market! Five star customer service, everyone from the barista to the stall holders were very friendly and helpful. Cheery mob indeed! Just be careful crossing the road if you have to — fast and furious and hard to see motorists bursting around the corners. Lots of people with dogs too, so don’t be afraid to bring your pooch.

Braved a visit to the Mt Albert market this morning during intermittent gale force winds and torrential rain. Luckily, most of the stores are undercover so we weren’t troubled although anyone buying fresh fruit or veggies today would not need to rinse them as this stall is located on the market’s edge. We came specifically for a breakfast catch up and shared a delicious bacon & egg gap, a chai from Cosset and some oh so sugary and delicious donuts from Scratch Bakers. Other treats on offer included bagels from Toasty Bagels paired with salads from a Deli stand, pies at scratch bakers and coffee & smoothies from Sprout, which is the permanent café on site. Shopping options included fresh & smoked seafoods, cured meats from Salash Delicatessen and some of the freshest fruits & veggies I’ve seen in a while. With Miss Maggies dog treats on sale and the lovely La Femme Fleur flower truck on site, the Mt Albert market has everything you need on Saturday morning, except the newspaper. Wish I lived closer!

Not only is Mt Albert Market home to my favourite flower truck(La Femme Fleur) but they also have the one & only Scatch pies, gorgeous smoked salmon and plenty of fresh fruit & vege. There’s a reasonable amount of seating and the majority of the market is under cover so come rain or shine it’s a great Sat morning activity!

Mt Albert Market is a relatively new addition to the area, taking over a disused petrol station spot that’s been dying for a makeover for awhile. The market runs from 9am till 1pm on Saturday morning, and offers fruit/veges, harmony meats, salmon, fresh flowers, breads, various sweet treats and, importantly, EXCELLENT coffee(three beans). It’s relatively small, but growing. It seems that a couple of new stalls pop up each week(this week it was breakfast burritos and chutneys), so will be interesting to see how it develops. In the meantime, it’s a lovely place to stock up on supplies for the week. It’s not necessarily the place to head for a bargain, but that’s because most of it(all of it?) is organic/free-range/locally made. That said, the harmony meats bacon we got was cheaper than you pay for free range in the supermarket. It has a nice community feel, with locals playing acoustic music sets, dogs on leashes and kids running around. They had tables and chairs set up in case you want to stop for a coffee and some breakfast/lunch(the bacon baps looked/smelt amazing), and because it’s an old petrol station, the ‘forecourt’ is totally covered, so no issue with rain. A great new addition!
