New World

Love this supermarket. It’s relatively new & modern. You never have to wait long for a checkout! Almost always get a close park. The deli & fish sections are great. Staff are friendly, what more can you want from a supermarket?!

This is a modern supermarket and one that I have occasionally treked to from my house, which is a bit of effort for me having only recently gotten a car.
I found the staff to be friendly and it definitely is a pretty nice supermarket, as far as supermarkets go.
There is no question some good specials can be found here, but overall I think it definitely has a high price point than Pak’N’Save and Countdown. So you probably wouldn’t want to make this your regular shop if you are keeping to a tight budget.
If you are in the area, why not have a look. Writing this review has reminded me that I found some really good frozen dumplings when I was doing my shop here; and I haven’t been able to find these at (the closer) Countdown supermarket…

I think pound for pound (or dollar for dollar) New World is the best place to do your weekly shop in Auckland. PaknSave may be cheaper but the experience of going there is very depressing — you’d need a couple of Prozac after visiting the branch on Lincoln Road. Countdown is pricey for what seems to be, a medicore shopping experience. New World has got a good deli (swiss frankfurters; wagyu beef, organic ham) and a good butchery (Chicken kievs here are cheaper and much better quality that the ones you get in the freezer). They have a wide ranging selection of good food and have lots of unusual things that you won’t find in the other supermarkets. Another bonus is that they pack the bags — this is nice when you have done your weekly shop and just want to relax rather than keep up with a speedy checkout girl!
