Ralph’s

Tucked in behind Murder Burger off Dominion Road, Ralph’s is a pretty cool spot.
They offer a simple menu with options for everyone.
I had the fried chicken burger with curly fries and the jalapeño poppers. The chicken was pretty overcooked and dry and the chipotle mayo tasted a bit vinegary. Still, it was pretty nice overall.
Only other low points were no sauce with the fries other than the usuals on the table, and the poppers were sitting in a pool of chipotle mayo rather than on the side.

You generally don’t go to a restaurant and during said visit expect to say the words to your spouse: «I wish they made these curly fries thicker so our daughter can’t stick them up her nose». This did however happen, though my daughter did very happily eat them as well as try to insert them up her nose!
I Digress.
The best thing about this place, was our waitress. This isn’t to say the food isn’t good, it is, however service was extra good here and when someone pays attention to your kids, it’s pretty much an guaranteed good start. She was friendly, knew the menu really well and was able to recommend to us specific dishes over others, which made the night that little bit better.
The highlights were the Fried Pickles, which were delicious so claimed my 6 year old son, and I’d have to agree. The batter was light, and crispy and not oily enough to ruin the lovely pickle inside.
My wife and I both had the burgers, I had the Ox Cheek with Cheese Burger (Special) which was nice, juicy. Strong Ox Flavour and Mexican cheese was a reasonable combination. I do think I’ll return for the mushroom burger next time.
My wife had the Pork and Apple Burger which she thought was very nice.
The fried chicken (warned as a little spicy), was really good, tender and flavoursome. Kids enjoyed it, no complaints about the hotness.
This is a really pleasant place, with a fairly constantly changing burger special list, based on what ingredients were best on the day at the market I presume.
As mentioned the staff are excellent and it was moderately priced.
If I was in this area and keen on a burger, I’d be back for sure. Recommended.
