Very nice and out of the way, If I recall correctly the drinks were actually quite cheap. Good for a meet up and chat.

A cool bar — nice quiet location for a late night mid-week drink. Interesting music, quiet enough to talk or think, loud enough for atmosphere. Nice vibe for young and old. I’ll be back!

I went to Tabac for an engagement party and I can’t believe what a spot-on choice it was for such an event. It was intimate but fun and laid back with its back alley and speakeasy like feel. Even so it still has a real classy vibe about it from its stellar beer, wine, bubbles, and cocktail selection and well-trained bar staff. The staff were also super accommodating to the needs of the party and played pretty good music throughout the event. I can’t give it 5 stars until I check it out during normal business hours, but am really keen to return!

This is a great little escape. Shouldn’t be publicizing this. However. Hidden gem that is soon to have a hidden gem… Great service. Awesome cocktails,. And the best was the off the normal route location. Yet in the middle of the city… Well done. Look forward to returning.

Came here Friday night for a 21st function for the first time ever– was a little difficult to find as it was way down the end of the lane and wasn’t able to spot it’s wee sign but it has a great interior. Nice tables and chairs around as well as wee small balcony table bench and chairs for fresh air. A nice cosy sort of space with a decent bar selection.

Tabac is a bar that I feel often gets forgotten. This is unfortunate, because the place is actually very nice. It’s got a main room and a little balcony and a private room. It caters to most. The drinks are good, they’ve got a really nice wine list. I have had some pretty fantastic cocktails from there too. The service is friendly and genuine, it feels pretty homely there. Tabac is located kind of in the backstreets of Auckland’s CBD but you can get to it via Queen Street. Basically just find the Burger King and go down the alley and up the spiral staircase. Pro tip: Do not attempt spiral staircase whilst drunk.

I was here last night for a friend’s leaving drinks. I have also been here for a wedding reception. One was quiet and relaxed, the other was loud and raucous. Tabac was the ideal setting for both these situations. It’s not a huge bar, but it’s well laid out with its main room at the front with the bar and the balcony, and a smaller, more private room behind it. The balcony is nice, because you can look down on the tiny alleyway below it and feel superior, which I like. Prices are probably what you’d expect for town, which is fine. The best part about Tabac, both times I’ve been there, has been the bar manager Kevin. Charismatic, funny, and happy in his work, he makes the place seem less like a town bar and more intimate and local — the kind of place where everybody knows your name, etc. And to be fair, it did seem like some of the people there knew him. A place like this is bound to gather a circle of regulars.

Tabac is one of those small, rare finds in the bar world where you can actually lose an entire night here having a good time and never once even consider moving on to another venue. I’ve been here for post-work drinks, private parties, random Saturday nights and even an engagement. It’s small and intimate, and fairly au fait with the hipster crowd of late, but I always have a good time. There is a smaller private room out the back, think heavy velour curtains and a very old-world opulence theme running through it. Don’t attempt those winding stairs back down to Queen Street if you’re wearing high heels and have had a few too many drinks… dangerous!

I hadn’t heard of Tabac until my partner decided to throw his birthday drinks here. We hired out the Velvet Room and with 20 people in it the room was packed out. There were great seats in there with room for snacks, we even ordered a bunch of Sal’s pizza for dinner. The Velvet room flows well into the main bar so it’s easy to come and go to get drinks. We played our own music and even had some Tekken battles happening throughout the night thanks to the flat screen they have there! The Velvet Room has it’s own restroom but Tabac’s restroom for all patrons are truly lovely and the best restrooms you’ll find in an Auckland city bar(just an important sidenote). Everyone had an awesome night and it was all thanks to Kevin and his staff. Nothing was impossible and they helped us with everything from set-up to the sound system to cutting the cake. I would visit this place just to know I’d be in good hands– they make a good drink there too!

If you are looking for that sultry, sophisticated, but cool cocktail and wine lounge; then look no further than Tabac Bar. Built into a heritage building, but hidden down Mills Lane adjacent to Albert Street. Perhaps you have seen the spiral iron staircase off Queen Street this will lead you up to Tabac. Exquisite selection of perfect cocktails, great wine and champagne, this is not your pub or club hangout although they do serve a fine collection of beer should you prefer this beverage. Does draw a stylish crowd and the musicians and DJ’s that frequent the bar are the best in the scene.
