Would come here to grab meat, veges and fruit over commercial supermarkets anyday. The prices are so much cheaper. However it seems mainstream have caught up and it’s become a lot more busy with non-asian people(not being racist, I am half thai half kiwi :)) so the prices have certainly gone up within the past 2 years.

This is the place to go if you’re looking for dried mushrooms, frozen pancakes, wonton pastry, or hundreds of other things you won’t find across the road in dull old Countdown. It’s actually a much better option for shopping than a big chain supermarket: prices are usually lower, and fruit and veg are usually fresher. The emphasis is on ingredients used in Chinese cooking, but there are also small ranges of Japanese, Korean, and Malaysian foodstuffs(although sadly they no longer stock kaya jam). Tai Ping has four or five other shops around Auckland, but they all seem to have their own personality; at this one, after you go through the checkouts, there are a few independent stores selling dumplings, cakes, and travel packages.
