One of the ongoing frustrations of living in Auckland is the lack of places to get anything decent to eat after 9.30pm –seriously, it’s crazily hard to find somewhere that isn’t a kebab shop that still has its kitchen open. Thankfully Tasca is modelled on the infinitely more civilised Spanish eating culture, where people sit, and talk, and even eat late into the night, so you can usually get something here until reasonably late. The Vulcan Lane branch is to my taste the most atmospheric: tucked up the top of the lane where it narrows, it really spills on to the lane and always looks festive. The prices are good: if you get three small plates between two you’ll probably be replete, or if you’re hungry, you can get a pizza or a main.

Tasca has the ambiance of sitting in the back streets of a Spanish café. Snugly tucked into the top of Vulcan lane, among cafes, and retails stores, this cosy little wooden nook is a favourite stop of mine, when on the hunt for a vibrant exotic brekkie, or gourmet pizza. Always busy with customers, Tasca caters for every need of the day– breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, pizza, sandwiches, fantastic coffee, and a superb selection of great wine. The menu here has a Spanish flare with delicious choices like Moorish eggs, and Pipierada to single them out from the ordinary. If you are after great food, a comfy and soothing setting, and fab service look no further than Tasca Vulcan when downtown.

Tasca has the ability to make you feel like you’re in some European city with it’s restaurant being down a cute little alleyway. When you walk in the décor helps with this European experience even more. There’s loads of Spanish quilts, candles, vases and even the lighting feels European. You’ll be sure to smell your food before you see it. Beautiful wafts of amazing flavours fill the restaurant and pour out onto the street. The food is Spanish style tapas which is my favourite way to eat. We usually share a whole lot of platter which means you get a taste of a whole lot of different kinds of food, it’s the best way to cure Food Envy! The menu does have a few random meals on it like the Kiwi Cheeseburger and good ol’ bacon and eggs. Good I guess if you have a picky eater amongst you. They also do a good coffee and a great drink.

I have been to Tasca both for breakfast and for dinner. Bravo for Tasca to being one of the few restaurants that served my steak the way I like it. When I told the waiter that I did not want to see any pink or red on my steak I thought I would be served a well done steak which was pink. But to my surprise when the steak came I could not find any red or pink. I was extremely impressed. The seat up at Tasca is very cosy! The seats are close together and are covered in cushions, it’s a very intimate place to have dinner with a loved one. When I had the steak I had gone there for a date with my boyfriend. We sat at the end of the restaurant and got cosy in an intimate setting.
