I was in the neighbourhood so I thought I’d stop by after reading its reviews. I bought a pie which was tasty maybe a tad on the salty side & I must say was a small pie! I spotted the muesli tubs which I thought were ridiculously overpriced $ 7 plus for what looked like ¾ tablespoons full of muesli — maybe it was extremely delicious but seriously stingy size for the price. The variety was ok but I’ve been to bakeries where there so much delicious choices it’s hard to decide.

Welcome to what would be Auckland’s coolest & hippest Revamped Retro Food Bar @the The Mustard Kitchen! I love it when I stumble across an unknown gem like this! Driving past, something about this place made me want to stop and check it out. I’m so glad I did! Serving the best organic coffee Kokako Organic Coffee my long black was made to perfection! From a coffee machine that was the perfect shade of Mustard Sitting there enjoying my coffee regular after regular came in for his or her morning coffee that was mastered and made by one very onto it barista. Who was a ball of life banging out coffees with nothing but pure enjoyment for what she was doing! This café is all about girl power from coffees to the kitchen. This café is known for its cabinet food!!! So many amazing mouth watering savoury and sweet treats you are seriously spoilt for choice. However most of Mustrys regulars could not go past their famous and oh so poplar God Damn Good Pies & Doughnuts! Everything is made in house from scratch with plenty of other options that cater to Paleo, Vegetarian & Vegan requirements and with way less of a dent in the wallet to your usual prices. The food here was so reasonable you can grab an extra treat! They have a cool sitting bar inside but the deck and BBQ tables out front are the real winners and will be perfect place to sit in summer. If you are in Morningside I highly recommend you stop by and visit the girls killing it at The Mustard Kitchen

Large selection of cabinet food for breakfast and lunch, all very tasty. From filled ciabattas to salads to sandwiches to pies. Coffee also good and consistent, largest takeaway cups are 450 mL which I like.

Heads up, the only seating is outside so if the weather doesn’t support this arrangement, you’ll be getting your order to go. Mustard Kitchen is a small hipsterish shack located a few minutes walk from Kingsland’s café scene but this is not just another café, Mustard Kitchen has different on the menu, it caters to the conscious consumer. Coffee is supplied by Kokako, organic fair trade caffeine which is a major draw card for me. They also have a good fridge and sell good beverages, no coke here. The juice board is impressive, made from fresh produce, with dairy free options available and jars of vegan bliss balls and cookies can be found at the counter too. They even have a Tommy & James Nice Block freezer, which is a little dangerous knowing how close that is to my house. I love the coconut ice cream. The cabinets are full of vegan, gluten free chia puddings and Bircher muesli served with fruit compotes and coconut, mean as looking pies and sandwiches, and an assortment of baked goods in vintage wooden crates. They also have a kitchen menu. When you come to pay your bill, you’ll hear your total and think you were under charged, you weren’t. Mustard Kitchen’s prices are about 20% less of what you’ll pay at say The Fridge or Shaky Isles 10 minutes in the other direction. That should spark your interest to pay these hipsters a visit if you haven’t yet…
