Very nice, small and cheap market. You can find everything you need. Especially there are multiple sorts of rice in packages of all sizes. The owner is very nice and it’s an informal atmosphere. All in all a very nice supermarket. Particularly if you like it not so busy as it is in the big ones.

With a severe lack of supermarkets in this part of Auckland City(Upper Queen Street), it was a blessing when this place first opened up. It is more expensive here than at a supermarket for sure, and it does have a limited amount of items, but the main thing is that the essentials are all covered. As well as that, One Food stocks quite a lot of fresh fruit and some meat, although the meat is fairly pricey so I haven’t actually tried any of it. They have loads of other Asian foods such as noodles, kimchi, ice cream and plenty of other snacks, as well as a good selection of different drinks. You can’t buy booze from here unfortunately.

While I was travelling around Asia, I learned to make a whole load of food, ranging from traditional Vietnamese spring rolls to Morning Glory, beef with lemongrass and chilli and more and still love making them now. Unfortunately, I’ve found a few ingredients, such as lemongrass, water spinach and good oyster sauce quite hard to come by in regular supermarkets in Auckland, so I’m always on the lookout for Asian places. I went into The One expecting to find a load of fresh vegetables and herbs but I was disappointed to find that the selection was really tiny. Mostly, The One just seems to have a vast selection of Asian noodles, coffee and biscuits – basically anything that comes in a packet rather than fresh stuff. Worth having a look around if, like me, you miss Asian faves like Hello Panda biscuits but there’s nothing really special here. If you’re looking for a good Asian supermarket then Lim Chhour in the food court on K-Road is a much better option than here: bigger and much more variety.
