Last week I was out in West Auckland and dying for a coffee. Walking around the streets near West City, there weren’t actually too many cafes around. Toast Café was the only place that was open and seemed halfway decent. Once inside Toast I was impressed by the friendly service and they had a pretty good menu available, not to mention some nice looking sandwiches and muffins in the cabinet. I ended up ordering an iced coffee and am pleased to report it was delicious. Though it may not look like anything special from the street, over all Toast experience was a fairly good. If you are out at West City and don’t feel like having a drink in the mall, I suggest heading on to the street and grabbing a drink at Toast. The prices were pretty good, the staff were friendly and it’s away from the hustle and bustle of shoppers on a mission in the mall.

Toast is supposed to be simple. Crunchy, cooked bread. Just choose a spread. This place had me bewildered. Is this a café or a restaurant or a bar? It has friendly enough service but what is going on with those opening hours? Is that Coke and milk in a Coruba fridge for sale or display? The fact there was a clean and funky business in Henderson was almost a conundrum in itself. I regret to inform you I am no closer to finding out the answers to any of the above question. My coffee was so painfully bad anything but the basics has been blanked out. Bad coffee. Nice service.
