Food is great, a good set of staples, many with an extra twist — the smashed avocado with a smear of vegemite is a great example — slightly let down by somewhat disorganised service. Go in with plenty of patience and the coffee + food won’t disappoint — and the queues will be a lot shorter than Dear Jervoise around the corner.

On Jervios Road in Herne Bay there is so many great café to choose from and try! All very popular and often busy. Zus & Zo is one of them and after walking past many of times it was time I stopped in to try a coffee. They use Atomic Coffee Roasters coffee beans and make one very good coffee! I ordered an Almond Piccolo Latte and it was great. It was the perfect little kick starter for my day! The café has a very cool rustic and industrial layout with all your cabinet food situated on a table down the middle of the room to further entice the eyes as you sip on your coffee. The menu boast so many healthy options for breakfast, brunch or lunch with pretty much every dish being gluten free and or dairy free so a great place for those with special dietary requirements. The flavour and food combinations for their dishes are wicked cool and make for tough decisions. The lovely ladies on front of house provided great service and no one was ever left waiting long. A great little café that is definitely worth a visit!

Zus and Zo is a lovely looking café in the middle of the Herne Bay shops. It has a menu filled with the usual café fare including vegetarian and non vegetarian big breakfasts, ricotta pancakes with maple syrup and blueberries, a range of eggs and smashed avocado with tortilla, and more. It’s only downside seems to be its service, which other reviewers have commented on and which I too found to be strangely erratic. You may find yourself having to ask for a menu and wait half an hour for a coffee like I did, in which case you may find yourself wondering whether to just Zus and go…

Quick lunch today that morphed into a long, lazy couple of hours sitting outside Zus & Zo chatting to a pigeon we called Bobby. Bobby lived in the hope of a crumb from my plate. Bad luck. My succulent cajun chicken, avocado, cucumber and baby greens salad was so good I could have licked the plate. A tangy dressing with chopped fresh tomatoes through it topped it off. So good to be able to get a really fresh and tasty salad that hasn’t mainly come out of a bag.

Found a loyalty card with enough stamps for a free drink in my handbag so headed here for a hot chocolate. Being late in the afternoon it wasn’t busy, so I chose a window seat, grabbed a magazine and settled in for a nice relaxing read. I’d asked for an extra hot drink and it arrived lukewarm. When I mentioned it wasn’t hot enough a new one was whisked to me in no time. Can’t ask for better than that.

Beautiful aromatic coffee smell, delicious lunch(salmon rosti) but bad service(I think I just had bad luck…) I’ve worked in the café industry before and so I feel for them during this busy Sunday lunch time. Once ur busy everything will get delayed and hectic HOWEVER having to seat ourselves, grabs chairs from elsewhere, get our own menus and to continuously and unsuccessfully wave down waiters/waitresses was making me HANGRY(hungry + angry from hunger) haha but eventually we got our orders(after the usual busy delay) but they had to double check our orders as they forgot some. All in all, out of the 3 meals we ordered the salmon rosti was the favorite on our table. Would I recommend u coming here? Yes, but not when they’re too busy. Remember, some of the best coffees are made when the barista isn’t busy and doesn’t have pressure as they will have time to perfect the art.

Light, tasty meals in a steezy little spot. Moroccan chicken salad is the best lunch in town.

Amazing food and the best coffee in town, strong and silky milk. Try the croque Madame, best in town!

I’ve never felt entirely comfortable at Zus & Zo. I can’t figure out if it’s the chairs or the seating arrangements or what, but I always feel a little chilly. Aside from that, it’s a nice café. Maddy loves to eat there, she gets the cruesli and swears by it. I had ordering troubles when I used to go, but now I know what I like, I’m happy. I had this thing from the specials board once, it was basically asparagus, bacon and a poached egg on toast and it was fucking delicious. My egg was runny and it made the whole thing really great, even though I don’t usually like egg yolks in the morning because they make me feel like throwing up, it was still so good. The customer service is very good and familiar. Lots of ‘cool’ kids hang out here.

What a cute little café! I like the location, down the furthest end of Jervois Rd, and the décor and ambience are spot on as well. I have been here only for coffee with a friend, which was perfectly made. We perused the menu for a good few minutes before a call that required our presence at Ponsonby Central came, otherwise we would definitely have had lunch as well. The open sandwiches sounded particularly tempting. I will be having the Black Box Chilli Coriander Chicken Sausage(try saying that 3x fast) on my next visit, no question.

I’ll begin by confessing that we kiiinda went to Zus & Zo because I had won a $ 50 voucher. That being said, I had driven past many times wanting to try it out. I’m just not in a position to be brunching regularly so this was a real treat. Situated on styly Jervois Road in the rather posh suburb of Herne Bay, Zus & Zo fits perfectly into it’s surroundings. It’s fancy in a relaxed way and it’s chic in that renovated villa, young parents who wear striped crew-neck tops and good quality jeans way. I had amazing blue cheese mushrooms on toast with ham off the bone and my partner had the big breakfast. Both were delicious, but I recommend if you come somewhere like this to try something that is not the big breakfast, just because there are so many unique dishes and all look amazing. There are great-looking sweet treats in cool retro cake holders, and seats out the front if you want to lap up the sun. A truly awesome food destination.

This little gem is located on Jervois Road and really is such a delicious little spot for brunch or lunch. The café is set out well, with outdoor seating and plenty of tables inside, it does get busy, but I have never had to wait for a table. The food is amazing and extremely reasonable when you see the quality of the ingredients they use. My favourite meal of the day has to be breakfast, I could eat it all day everyday so I was thrilled to see their large selection of brekkie style meals, poached eggs, haloumi, croque-madame sandwiches and of course bacon!!! They say money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy bacon and Zus and Zo is the perfect place!

Zus & Zo was one of my late finds of 2012. My partner and I are always on the lookout for somewhere new to try, so on a Saturday morning we headed to Zus & Zo– it became my new favourite café. Its a small space but they always manages to accommodate all of its loyal and hungry patrons. Tables can seem a bit close together bu its a small price to pay for the experience as a whole. Customer service is on point and you never have to wait too long for your coffee or meal. The bircher muesli with blueberries and strawberries is the best I’ve had in Auckland. Combined with the Zus & Zo Big Breakfast, you’ve hit a brunch goldmine.
