Seriously damaged in February 2011 following an earthquake in 2010. Historical and preservation interest having an argument over when and how to restore the building. In downtown area located in downtown area next to Novotel Hotel

Having visited the Cathedral years ago, it was very sad to see it all broken, and to hear there is an argument going on to rebuild or demolish and move on. I think it should be made safe and let it be a memorial to those who lost their lives and were injured on that awful day.
These days we are too quick to demolish and move on. Some things need to be kept as a reminder as once was, and to remember.

Visited ChristChurch Cathedral before the earth quake. One of the most prominent landmark in Christchurch, the interior, high ceilings, columns and stained glass windows are beautiful. The climb up the cathedral is worth it with a view of the cathedral square and Christchurch from the top. Unfortunately, part of this cathedral is damaged by the recent earthquake.
