this is a Japanese restaurant but they don’t serve ramen!!! So I ordered the Karaage(crispy chicken) Don. It was good but you need to drink water after this. This Don doesn’t worth 12.9 dollars I think. But it still taste good!

This is a great and fast Japanese sit-down/take-out restaurant on Victoria Street. I stopped in around 7 with two others and there were plenty of seats available. We were really craving sushi, but unfortunately their sushi department is rather lacking and they aren’t made fresh to order. I tried the Teppan Teriyaki Chicken Bento Value Set and the chicken was extremely tender. The rice was cooked okay and the miso soup was good, but the salad lacked any dressing. My husband and I also ordered edamame as well as our other friend and they only brough one order to us. After we explained it to them, it took about 10 minutes to get the other edamame and they had to verify with us 3 times that we actually did order two. My husband had the salmon ngiri which looked really fresh, and the Tori Tama(hot udon noodles with a fried egg and crispy chicken) which was really flavorful. I would come back for that! The restaurant serves beer(and even has a beer tower if you want to get crazy) and sake as well. This is definitely good for a casual, quick meal.

Whilst in Christchurch met up with my coworker’s family here. Always nervous to try an un-yelped venue on the road, but we dove in! Pretty interesting things on offer here, different from your typical sushi joint. A particularly interesting offer was the rice burgers. In place of a bun the burgers had a sicky rice cake. Sounded weird but totally worked. Bit of a letdown how few veg options were on offer here. They were also a bit inflexible on adding/subbing tofu to things, which I wasn’t too pleased about. We veggie types need protein too!!! I went for the tempura burger which was strangely delightful. Crunchy tempura in place of meat, with peri peri sauce. I have to admit I went back for a second I was so taken with it! Also got the agadashi tofu which was really nice. My dinner mates got some of the noodle bowls which looked beautiful with lots of different toppings. An interesting place, not sure I am dying to go back, except maybe for a rice burger from time to time!
