Cowboy Jack’s used to be one of my favourite places for brunch around Lower Hutt.
A couple of weeks ago, I saw they have vouchers on Groupon, so I immediately snapped two.
After my partner and I went there today, we immediately noticed that things seem different — different staff, glassware and cutlery… At first, we didn’t click.
The menu is unchanged — that’s what didn’t make us suspicious straight away.
We ordered our usual — two Big Breakfasts and coffee.
As soon as everything arrived, we saw alarm bells. The plates looked nothing like before:
The chips was simply shoestring, frozen chips and not the gorgeous handcut wedges we were used to.
The mushrooms were a very conservative serving of thinly-​sliced button mushrooms instead of a couple of large Portobellos.
The sausages were something similar to cheerios and not cheesy kranskis.
And the eggs? Oh, Lord! The eggs!!! The didn’t even ask us how we want them — they served us with «poached» eggs, made in a microwave plastic mould, both eggs were hard on the inside and completely inedible!
The only thing that didn’t change (too much) is the corn bread — you now simply get half of what the previous owners used to serve.
The coffee was impossible to drink — burned and disgusting. (Without into going into too much detail, I guess some cultures aren’t great in making western drinks).
And the worst bit? I was the fool, who bought two vouchers and now I have to go back and sit through this one more time!
Overall, the place will shut doors in a couple of months, once the current voucher deals have expired.
Until then — please, do avoid at all cost!!!
P. S.: Isn’t it funny that they have shut down the Facebook account and the Zomato page, so no one can review them?
