Great café! Excellent coffee, beautiful, freshly-baked bread, and lovely breakfast. Our wedding party had breakfast here after my wedding at plume restaurant in Dec 2014! Well done to the Plume team! Look forward to visiting again.

It was a hungover morning after a night at the Goat Island campsite, and the wonderful folks at Leigh Sawmill didn’t open until 10am. Not good enough! The parched and grumpy masses needed eggs, and needed them right away! We drove into Matakana and had a quick survey of the area before heading to the café — I was drawn to it because my experience at Plume Restaurant was so amazing. The café is nice. It’s well laid out with ample room inside and a few tables on the deck, and next to the café area is a beautiful bakery with lots of tasty pastries on show(with some to taste). The food at the café was slow, but good — the eggs were cooked to perfection and wolfed down very quick. The only issue was, it was super expensive! I got an eggs Benedict-style dish, a coffee and(ahem) a hair-of-the-dog Corona, and spent well over $ 30 for the lot. Sheesh!

Plume Café is in a gorgeous garden setting with plenty of seating inside and out. If it’s a sunny day I suggest taking your coffee and Strawberry tart into the garden to be amongst the bees and the butterflies. I’ve only ever stopped for coffee and cake but the coffee was good and the pastries are scrummy! They have a great selection of summer fruits French pastries; they all look so good it makes decisions hard. They also have a variety of homemade breads; the Ciabatta is crusty and fresh. They also do a good cooked breakfast menu; the plates around us were impressive, simple but fresh
