3 words: half-priced tapas Saturday! (Ok well, that was 4 words really but the emphasis was really on the first 3, the last one was a more of a disclaimer.) I’m a huge fan of tapas. Partly because I like to share my food with friends and partly because I love to have lots of things for me to pick and chose from in a sitting. Normally priced tapas are between 9 – 15 dollars so it’s not too expensive if you miss their Wed & Sat night specials. They have a decent selection of seafood dishes in their tapas selection(calamari, squid tentacles, shrimp), which is a plus. If you’re a seafood fan, I highly recommend the crispy spiced squid tentacles: this is done perfectly and not chewy at all like a lot of other places who offer fried squid. Non seafood fans, have no fear, their Thai flavoured meatballs are just as tasty though not very Thai-ish in my opinion. And a special mention to their shoe string fries which are the perfect companion to a table full of tapas. They have a decent drinks selection menu. Beer, wines, cocktail and liquor. There are also different drink specials that run throughout the week. Very friendly staff and such a cute little bar, will definitely be back again!

Great for a drink when you’re in the area. A little bar with a tiny little courtyard. Friendly staff and cool big mirrors adorn the little venue. Really random location given that it’s in an Indian dining precinct but that also means it’s not crazy busy because it’s not big enough to house the games or a band. It just so happens that Prague is one of my favourite cities I have visited as well.

Awesome place for a quiet drink. Rocked up with two of my friends on a Saturday night and was surprised by the half price tapas!!! Definitely recommend :)

Awesome ambiance, service and food! Too bad they don’t serve you at the table for the lazy ppl that don’t want to keep walking up to order more food!

My partner and I lived down the road from Prague for 1.5 yrs and never went again after a sub-par experience when it first opened. However, on a whim we went again as we were in the area and as most know there aren’t many places to catch a drink. We went for their Thursday 2 for $ 15 cocktails and had a really great time. Like many of the other reviews it’s definitely a place to have a few drinks. Certainly it’s not a ‘party’ bar but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have some fun at Prague. The bartenders were really friendly and chatty like a good local should have and although their liquor selection wasn’t massive most of it was medium to top-shelf and reasonably priced. Personally I love any place that serves Talisker!

Having never been to the Czech Republic I struggle to see what it has to do with this bar in Sandringham. Certainly all the ideas that the name conjures up — European stone architecture, history, occupation by the Nazis, quality beer — these have nothing to do with this place. What the bar itself suggests are stock standard drinks, a loutish after-work clientele, and a pretty standard suburban pub with aspirations. Also the place is tiny so it’s lucky Sandringham is an economically impoverished suburb or they’d never fit in all the people who could afford to drink their situation away. That’s overly harsh. This isn’t a bad bar — it’s just a Grey Lynn bar that’s got lost on its way to Kingsland. Once the gentrification finally spreads out far enough and all of Sandringham’s interesting Indian restaurants have been replaced by Mac’s Brew Bars and Kiwiana fish & chip franchises, Prague will fit in just fine…

So I’m chilling at home one day, and I get a text from a mate to meet the boys at Prague. Now, I’d never heard of this place, not even in passing, so a few Google searches later and I was off, and quite surprised to find that I DID actually know this place, I’d driven past it many times but just never clicked to it. A tiny little bar and eatery that passes in a blink of an eye as you drive down Sandringham road, I am definitely glad we picked this spot up. A decent outdoor area for use dirty smokers, and a great selection of beers served up by smiling bar staff made for a wicked impromptu afternoon, and we already are planning to head back to try out the food which we have heard is pretty damn good. So you never know do you? The little places that pass you by can sometimes be the little gems you look so hard for elsewhere.

Prague is a cute wee café and bar located on the corner of Sandringham Road and Haverstock Road, on the edge of the Sandringham shops. Unlike many of the businesses in this area, it is not an Indian restaurant. Prague is a small intimate bar with a full kitchen serving delicious European meals until around 9pm most evenings. On Tuesday nights Prague host a quiz night. The evening is really relaxed and mostly local teams compete for the bar tab prize. I’ve gone along with my mum and her team a few times and, I must say, the questions are pretty hard! Be warned if you’re thinking about taking part! While you may not win it is still a lot of fun to be a part of, and the relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff mean there is no need to feel intimidated. Tip: On Thursdays Prague offer two for one cocktails. Girls, this is the perfect place to enjoy some fantastic drinks and have a good old catch up! However the bar is pretty small so if you feel like a dance, this is not the place for you!

This place used to hold such an attraction to me and my school friends. This nondescript building — what could it hold? As we grew older, we found out it was a brothel — then one day it wasn’t(a few years too early.) The space stood dormant for a while, then became a cheap rundown electronics shop. Then I heard rumors about a bar opening up. I immediately wondered what kind of bar they would put in Sandringham — but I never thought it would come out like this. As Prague slowly took shape, the realization that it would actually provide a touch of class came as a suprise. By the time it opened, my anticipation levels were peaking — and they satisfied. Although it’s small — with a dining area that could fit 20 at the most — they put out some great food. They offer a Breakfast, Brunch, Tapas and Desert menu, with quite a lot of options priced between the 15– 25 dollar range. There is also a good smoking area outside, with plenty of space so that those who don’t choose to imbibe can still have a conversation in the outdoors.
