I was a bit disappointed with the food. Yeah the place is great out in the farm, away from the road, spacious, nice set up, nice furniture, it has a massive book shelf inside and it’s definitely hidden however, the food was just not that great. Myself and my partner both ordered the steak sandwich, which comes with fries piece of bread and a cole slaw salad. The piece of bread was soggy, the steak was not good quality meat, I like my steak lol and KFC has better coleslaw. #kitchensnightmare#niceplace#makebettersteaksandwich#i’llsticktoswashbucklers

This little café I visited today with sister and puppy in toe was one I use to come to years ago with my Grandma after helping her stock up her gardening supply’s at the nursery that it’s located in. I still remember her order cappuccino with a slice of lemon meringue pie every time. Recently the café has come under new ownership and is now Friend of the Farmer it’s had a complete revamp from outlay to menu and has come back to life. I had heard great things so thought a visit for old times sake was in order. I was not disappointed! My long black was made perfectly it didn’t last long! My sister said her latte was also top notch smooth and silky and a delight to drink. They roast all their own coffee in house using a one of a kind Roast Master! The food that was coming out to tables looked amazing and all reasonably priced. There is a little animal farm of pigs, chickens and bunnies to keep the little ones amused. Or you can just sit back and relax in the café surrounded by the smell of fresh air and flowers from the surrounding garden centre. So if you want to escape the city and kick it in the burbs with some good coffee and food I highly recommend Friend of The Farmer. Only down side was no lemon meringue pie but I know my grandma would have loved this place just as much

Our Sunday brunch group ventured out south to Friend of the Farmer to visit our friend John Palino, the proprietor. «Who would drive to such an out of the way spot»? grumbled Kerry. «Um the locals? was my reply. «It’s a local café Kerry!» It was a pretty crappy day weather wise which apparently keeps the locals away as you enter through a pretty soggy Kings Plant Barn when it’s wet, so it was quiet but by no means empty and it was well worth the drive. This impressive daytime café had plenty to choose from. The menu has an all day breakfast featuring local produce, delicious deli style offerings, cakes and scones at the counter and coffee roasted on-site. I put my usual bunch of side dishes together to form paleo breakfast of eggs, bacon, mushrooms and hash cakes. The hash was excellent and tasted like a great stuffing. The eggs, bacon and mushrooms were cooked to perfection. Our group’s order ranged from a Texan Burger to French Toast, Eggs Benedict and Paul had a spectacular Cajun Meatloaf. We’ll be back. Four stars from the first visit and I suspect that will go up when the weekend evening menu including ribs and the liquor licence kick in. Oh and bring the kids. There are rabbits, pigs and chickens in a petting zoo arrangement midway between garden centre and café. Oh and John says the venue is available for weddings!
