Joe’s Garage

We went here for breakfast and coffees. I had read that the service was slow, and I’m still uncertain when to order at the counter and when to wait for service. This a wait for service, I think. Anyway, once we ordered, the food came promptly. Between us we had a Gorgeous George which was an amazing stack of breakfast fare. I had the savoury scone, being sold on the full bacon slices in the rolls, although I found the onion jam a bit too sweet for my tastes on a savoury scone. We also had the fruit crumble. The fruit was perfectly sweetened (a good amount of tartness) but I would have liked to see a lot more crumble topping. The flat whites were great, and hubby was very satisfied with his Americano. Would go back if there weren’t so many other places to explore in the city!

Eigentlich wollte ich Sushi essen, aber das hatte sich auch schnell erledigt.
Der Laden war nicht so meins. Nun ja zurück zur Garage.
Einrichtung und Ambiente ist schon ok und nichts neues.
Amerikanischer Flair und etwas retro. Meine Bestellung wurde flott aufgenommen und auch prompt bearbeitet.
Nun hatte ich Zeit der sehr lauten Musik zu lauschen.
Das gelang sehr gut den sie war ja viel viel zu laut. Kann man beheben, dann müssen sich die anderen 10 Gäste am Tisch auch nicht schreiend unterhalten ;)!
Zum Essen: Nichts besonderes. Ein Borrito mit ungewürzten Bratkartoffel und Dip, dazu ein fertiges Knoblauchbaguette. (Ungewöhnliche Kombi fragt ihr euch? –Ich mich auch, aber alles andere las sich genauso: D)
Ich würde sagen dort «versucht» jemand sich zu etablieren. Leider ist der «Versuch» bei mir nicht geglückt. Für das erste hat es mir den Hunger genommen, aber ich fand es denn noch nicht zufriedenstellend. Schade eigentlich.
:(Das kann man echt besser machen. Ich würde kein zweites mal dort essen gehen.

Terrible wait time, on a fairly empty morning. Ran out of scrambled eggs (how???) and doesn’t do poached eggs. Coffee was average, expected a lot better.

Warm! Lovely staff, great coffee and awesome food! Can’t wait to come back next time we are in Wellington. Bacon Burrito on the potato hash was amazing and chips/​gravy was great on a cold day. Love the Wellington Hospo

Nice place. Came for a cuppa and they treated us very well. It is a very friendly and welcoming environment. Recommended.

We’re only in Welly for 10 days, but we’ve already visited Joe’s 3 times. The first time was for take-​away coffee. It passed the taste-​test and while there I saw one of their Bratwurst hotdogs sitting on the counter. I knew I had to come back for one of those! I came back for dinner with a group of 6 and we all loved it. Food ranged from schnitty to hamburger, grilled chicken and of course, my Brat. Everyone enjoyed the food. The music they play is great, too: perfect if you’re an old rocker like me. It’s a little bit louder than background, but not too loud to talk over. Finally, wife and I returned for breakfast. Wife had «pikelets» which were 3 thick, fluffy (not rubbery) pancakes with banana, bacon and maple syrup. Yum! I had hot rhubarb crumble with yoghurt. Unlike many so-​called rhubarb pies, etc, this had more rhubarb than apple. Delish!

We were in the mood for burgers…
