Rydges Wellington

Pretty good hotel when you have business in the city or with government.
The rooms are standard but comfortable and a good size.
The in house restaurant is ok for breakfast — not right up there but adequate if you are into self service

A very nice hotel in a great location! This was my first time at the Rydges, though I have stayed in the area before and knew that I liked it (plus it was close to my meetings). I arrived around 3:30pm and was checked in quickly by the friendly front desk staff, and guided to my 15^th floor room overlooking Parliament and the city. Alternately, you can pay a bit more for a harbour view. Seeing as I was only here for two nights and would be away from my room most times, it wasn’t worth it to me, but the view would have been nice. My room (and all rooms?) had a nice sized balcony too, where I could sit outside (on my desk chair) and sip a glass of wine.
The room itself was large, clean, and well appointed. The TV had many channels, and the WiFi was free and fast. I did not have any food at the restaurant, but did get a glass of wine and the staff were friendly. Checkout was quick and easy, and taxis are usually parked out front, but can come quickly when called by the front desk.
I will certainly return to the Rydges next time I am in Wellington!
