I was walking to my hotel and passed by this awesome house on the corner at the base of a hill and when I found out that it was a gastropub, I made a solemn vow then and there that I could not leave Wellington without giving them some money. The GP is a great spot for a lighter dinner and a few beers with friends after work. My server was really knowledgeable about recommending local beers to try, and the food was tasty as well. Check this place out! Food: 4⁄5 Value: 4⁄5 Service: 5⁄5 Atmosphere: 5⁄5

First it looks nice from the outside, white old house with that special feeling. You will be granted probably by a very nice welcome followed by a smiley service. It gets very busy during the week end and after work, so it can become hectic to order. Food is actually very yummy. Love the squid salt and pepper and also the lamb is yummy. Only thing that the portions are a bit tiny, so you might end up a bit hungry at the end, hence it will cost you more… However great choices of tap beers and nice wine menu. Great place. They should just increase the food quantity

Here for a lunch meeting. It’s in a great location right in the middle of town. Easy access. I can imagine this as a very good after work/happy hour place. Has a good vibe about it and they advertise 10 $jugs of beer and 20 $carafe of house wine during happy hour 7−9pm. I had the pork meatball and gnocchi for lunch. It was quite good, filled me up and had some good flavour. Although there was nothing spectacular about the food. I will be back to check out the night scene.

A favourite between students and families alike! Right in the middle of town, the General Practitioner is a laid back bar and restaurant with an atmosphere which makes you keep on wanting more. Whether going in for drinks(including $ 10 jugs of beer and cider between 7 – 9, a real winner with the students) or some classic pub food, featuring the best fish and chips I have ever had, the ‘GP’ seems to be a winner. Wellington is not short on bars, however it isn’t surprisingly hard to find one with a decent indoor and outdoor area, where you can easily catch up with friends, whether it be for lunch, dinner or after work drinks– but the GP seems to have it pretty well covered. The interior is slightly creepy, with scalpels and unknown objects in jars, dark wooden interior and three stories of restaurant to explore, fitting the mould of a medial practitioner– how ironic. The GP has ways been a favourite of mine and as long as the food is good and the jugs are cheap, I’m sure it’ll continue to be!
