This restaurant was such a pleasant surprise. The restaurant is small and slightly off the heavily trekked tourist paths but still near to things. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is as if you visited a friend. The owner is very helpful and welcoming and the setting is cozy. If you love Eritrean/​Ethiopian food, this place will become a favourite when visiting Amsterdam.

Wholesome Eritrean /​Ethiopian near the Portuguese synagogue in the old Jewish Quarter near Waterlooplein. Not an expansive menu, but hits all the basics for both carnivores and those «other» people. Service was cheerful. The wots were nicely spiced and the meat tender. Not as good as the Overtoom Triumvirate, but just fine if you’re in the neighborhood.

I live here and yet it took an intrepid guest visiting me to unearth this place. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the fact that I ate until I actually had to undo the top button of my jeans should speak for itself. Do not overlook this place. It’s incredible. Wear stretchy pants.

Yes! Eat here!!! We lived in Amsterdam for 6 months, some 15 or so years ago. This was one of our favorite restaurants in the City then and continues to be a special place for us today. The food is Eritrean. We are vegetarians who eat fish. We order a vegetarian variety plate with the tuna. We’ve eaten similar food throughout the US and this is one of the best. On top of that, the folks running the restaurant are very friendly. In fact, the same owner from 15 years ago is still here. He instantly remembered us when we visited last week. The restaurant is easily found next to the Jewish Historical Museum and around the corner from the Portuguese Synagogue. Finally, the price point is excellent. This is on our «must do» list whenever visiting Amsterdam.

Incredible food for very reasonable prices. I ate here when I was travelling through Europe. I am still dreaming about this food months later. We got the Zegeni and Tebsi. You must try them– simply delicious.
