Some places can be summed up pretty quickly by providing an example from last Friday. A woman arrived with a child and asked if they had a child seat. The(owner) responded«yes, inside.» It didn’t occur to him to offer to bring out the stool as that no doubt would have been too much trouble for him. Once the lady had got the child seat herself, she then placed an order. Ravioli was on the menu, and she asked if she could have a half portion for the child, only to be told that a half portion wasn’t possible as the portions had been pre-measured out already. Now I’m not a mathematician, but surely if an adult portion has say 10 pieces of ravioli, then it shouldn’t be too difficult to simply only put five pieces into the pan for a half portion. Apparently such calculations are only possible for graduates of Oxford and Cambridge and was beyond the skills of the staff of Café Blek. To put it simply, it’s a place that’s not child friendly, and the food is as bland as an album by the Toppers. The service speaks for itself. Avoid.

Another 3 ½ stars. I miss the old funky Divas café that used to be here(that’s my problem) but the spaciousness and the nice light remain. Like most places in the neighborhood the prices have gone up quite a bit but this is still a nice place to chill and have an afternoon drink and hopjes. The space is big enough to bring a group of people but also to find a nice private table if you are solo. I’ve only eaten here once for dinner and like many Dutch cafés I didn’t find the food really exceptional. Still there was a vegetarian choice and a variety of things which should appeal to most people. There is a good selection of beer and friendly staff. Free Wi-Fi makes it a great spot to hang out in the afternoons. I noticed they’re posting the schedule of football matches so I assume they’re trying to attract a sports bar crowd. It seems like it would be a good place to watch a match.

Nice and spacious café in the Rivierenbuurt. Good choice if you want to have a drink in the neighbourhood and if you want a few bitterballen with friends. There is a good terrace as well. Inside are also TV’s and you can watch sports here as well if you like.

Great sandwiches, we had the seasoned beef balls as an appetizer and open faced tuna melt with ouda cheees. Excellent service, on a quiet and beautiful side street. An excellent place to enjoy and experience local amsterdam
