Café De Brakke Grond

Wonderful spot for a coffee with company, although the service is nothing to talk about. The highlight is the wonderful outdoor seating that is a good respite from the crowds nearby. In fact, you wouldn’t even realize that there might be a café if you’re walking nearby.
Only had coffee here, so I can’t comment on the food.

A cosy little hole in the wall. Or at least for me it is, because I had never been on this little square in the Ness.

only reason for a 4 star is the fact that service is very, very slow!

I got the hummus as a starter. It came with almost a loaf of bread. No joke. Not complaining as the bread wasn’t bad but it was just completely unexpected and made the two scoops of hummus look very very very tiny. The hummus was really good though. Topped with roasted pine nuts. Yum. If you’re on a budget and want to fill up, this is actually a pretty good option at around 5E. I’m serious about the loaf of bread!
My friend got the hummus and roasted vegetable salad. Also yum and a nice portion but the 9E was a bit steep price for what you got. The fries — this is supposed to be somewhat of Belgian inspired gastropub right? — were disappointingly soggy. Blegh. For a main I ordered the goat cheese toastie with honey. Had to ask for honey on the side b/​c the goat cheese was overpowering. Once I was able to add just a smidge more honey to the sandwich it was really quite tasty.
Other thing that annoyed me — my friend ordered orange juice and her cup was just shy of ¾ full while another patron received a full cup. I come from the land of large quantity and free refills so at the very least everyone should get the same amount of pricey juice when they order it! Just sayin’.
I did quite enjoy the terrace and it was a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of Dam Square and will most likely be back for this very reason.
