Came here for a late lunch. Food was great, service was slow. But I wonder if this is the norm because my friends that have been to Amsterdam before say that the waiters in restaurants are not really in a hurry to serve you??? Not sure about that, but when I go to a restaurant, I’m usually hungry and don’t like to wait forever to get served food. Anyways, I ordered the tuna melt. 20 minutes later, everyone at my table got their food, and I haven’t received mine. 10 minutes on top of that 20, I finally received my food. The tuna melt was actually pretty good, I was surprised. I liked it here, I would come again.

We enjoyed every bite! I had the bread with several kinds of tapenade, a wonderful side salad and risotto for my main dish. Very tasty. I would go here again!

I’ve categorized this place by the people who I always see: 1. Legacy Customers: These folks probably have been coming to Zeppos for hundreds if not thousands of years. Usually they all order the same plate while sharing stories of the Dutch Golden Years back in the 17th century 2. Party Staff: I have to mention the staff here because I think they are fun peeps. One night I was there and some lady dressed like she was going to bust out some Flamenco encouraged us to sing and dance to the old Michael Jackson music she was playing. An hour later, the entire staff was dancing, kind of serving, and most of all having a great time! 3. Tourists: You can’t have a restaurant as cute as zeppos in a small alley in the center without the occasional tourist. Especially after a day of dodging Dutch cyclists and eating cheese samples, I can’t think of a better place to relax and take a stroll along the NICE part of the red light district after dinner. But I can assure you this is no tourist trap so don’t let that turn you off 4. Locals: The bf and I live really close to here and when we are strolling in the hood wanting a place to eat, we will stop by here to enjoy some nice wine, interestingly gezelligly decorated interior, friendly Dutch service, not super amazing but still good food, and sometimes some cheesy music accompanied with crazy dancing. I only have good memories here and we will continue to come back. OH! and if you see the a special dessert of South African malva… ORDERIT!

Do not come here! Scam for tourist! If the waitress ask if you want whipped cream make sure you say NO! Because They will charge for chocolate milk and additional charge for whipped cream! Prices on the menu aren’t the same! !!! Food aren’t great either!!!

As a student, when I lived around the corner from this place, there were many nights when I walked home through the narrow street that harbors Zeppo’s. It never crossed my mind to visit this restaurant. Not just because it was usually already closed by the time I walked by, but also because it looked really cheesy from the outside, with all the colored lights hanging above the outside seating area. I might, many years ago, have accidentally screwed out one or more of those colored lightbulbs on my way back home. A useless deed of a drunk student for which I would sincerely like to apologize. But it does illustrate the fact that Zeppo’s does not target the student audience, unlike almost every other bar or restaurant in this area that is close to the law school as well as the university library. Even this past Friday, when after a decade of living in this city, I first visited Zeppo’s it was not because I was curious to finally go here. It was because I had to come here for a wedding dinner. As a location for a wedding dinner I had my reservations. When going through my internal database of wedding dinner locations this was by far the least fancy of all. The other reason for my initial lack of enthusiasm was because I had heard from the master of ceremony that the restaurant management was not too keen on us holding speeches or other wedding entertainment. So when I entered the second floor, that we rented out completely, I was surprised to see a stage ready to use, microphone included. The staff was fast and adequate, while not interfering with our program. That I think is the hardest thing to do, but they really did a great job, for which I compliment them. The food was actually pretty average. I understand it is difficult to give 50 people a decent, warm and fresh main course simultaneously, but I know it can be done. It is against my habit to give four stars while the food is average. My four stars might be inflated by the fact that the wedding was epic, or even the sense of guilt for those lightbulbs years ago. But to me, anything less then four stars would not do this place any justice.

Funky place in an alley! I liked the old school cheesy décor, but there was no music the night we went. Our waiter was attentive and also telling us what to order… as in… no, I think you will have this instead. haha, love a waiter with attitude! The fish was grilled nicely and had good flavor, the seafood soup was nice but a bit too salty for me, and the other dishes were just average… so not amazing, but good enough for a casual evening out.

A great neighborhood place. Actually it sone of these places that makes say wow as soon as you go in. Food was amazing — we had a setup menu especially for valentines days with risotto to start and steak for main. Meat was very nice done and presented in a very nice way. We accompanied our dinner with a bottle of red Merlot for Argentine. After 11 they turned the place in a disco 80s 70s dancinf fever. First peoploe to dnace was the staff which by the way are extremely friendly and helpful. A must go if you are either a tourist or a local or you looking for a fun night out with Dinner

Sehr, sehr charmant gelegen in einer kleinen Gasse. Hochpreisig. Der Kellner war leider eine Schlaftablette und absolut nicht aufmerksam.

This lovely restaurant is tucked away in a tiny street. You can easily pass by without noticing. It is a nice spot if you want to have a romantic dinner. The food is nice and looks pretty on your plate. The prices are also fine. In the summer you can also sit outside. I love how this place in hidden away even though it is in the middle of the city center. They also have a café next to the restaurant and students get a discount there!

Funky ambience, nice honest food and friendly staff. I ate lunch there so probably a different menu and ‘feel’ than dinner, but would certainly go back and see what dinner menu offers. Good location. Fair prices.

Great little neighborhood café. We had the lamb dish and the duck salad as an entrée. The ambiance is very relaxed, the restaurant decorations eclectic. There was no live music the night we were there(Sunday). The panna cotta dessert was the height of the meal. Really excellent.

I have been here with Dutch friends and the place is actually nice: cool furniture and good atmosphere. The menu is very diverse, including different tastes from different parts of Europe, service was good and portions generous. Prices have been just a bit over the average.

Café Zeppos is a lovely European fusion restaurant hidden on a quiet alley. The alley is named after Gebed Zonder End(Prayer without End) which is in reference to the convent that stood here in the 17th century. This friendly café is in the center of the tourist zone and nearby University of Amsterdam. My Dutchman toke me here last night spontaneously for dinner. The waiters were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we did not make reservations, but the staff was still kind enough to still seat us with the best seats in the house, despite it being full. Zeppos menu is diverse with a variety of dishes to appease all appetites. Although, I have Celiac I was very fortunate to find many wonderful dishes on the menu to compliment my dietary issues.

Lovely little café/bar with a nice little vine-covered courtyard with convenient retractable roof. A little off the beaten track and not very touristy, it’s a great spot for a quiet cheap-ish lunch and apparently has live music in the evening.
