Service is sooooo so so slow. Great location sitting on the canals if you’re at an outside table, but really not worth the hassle. It took probably 30 minutes for a waitress to even notice that we existed. I got a french onion soup, and something unmemorable like a flatbread as well. The tables outside are also SOOO small that nothing really fits on them, making it a cramped experience. Location is probably the only really positive thing about it.

Stopped in on a whim and were very pleased with the friendly and efficient wait staff. We really wanted to try bitterballen before leaving Amsterdam and found them very tasty indeed. I’d recommend this place — it felt like a neighbourhood pub on a quiet street by a canal, a perfect place for drinking a couple beers or wines into the blue of evening

It would’ve been a complete 5 stars if there wasn’t so much foam in my beer. There was so much foam that my medium beer can be considered as a small beer. The atmosphere in here is very cozy and the staff were somewhat attentive I would say. Took a while to get our orders but food came really fast! I had the Brie and chorizo toastie and it was perfect. The cheese was oozing out, which is most important to my sandwiches, and the bread was toasted well, not soggy. Prices were fair, not too expensive.

Sit outside in the shade! There isn’t much shade so you have to have good timing, lol. If you manage to get a spot it’s a great place to have snacks, drinks or a regular meal while sitting next to the Prinsengracht canal. You could also come later at night as it’s usually populated well into the evening. There are two sections inside. On the right is a full bar open til 1:00 am. The restaurant is on the left. They can accommodate large groups or smaller. I had a burger while I was there. It was served open faced on crunchy dark bread. It had lettuce, tomato, cheese and bacon. It was cooked medium rare so it was nice and juicy. I’m not real adept as yet at eating a burger with a knife and fork but I’m getting better. Next time I’ll try the stroganoff. Yep there’ll be a next time as it’s a pleasant place to hang out. I also had a slice of apple pie which wasn’t all that large and wasn’t all that impressive. It seemed more like a cheesecake in appearance than a slice of pie. It came with a dollop of whipped cream on the side garnished with a sprig of some greenery.

Very nice ambiance, limited options on the menu but the food is very good. Friendly service and a good selection of wines.

Disappointing. After a nice appetizer, the entrees were flavorless and had to be sent back, but the second try was poor, as well.

So, we went here as we had heard a lot of good things about this place. The place is nice, cozy and has a great ambience but the service is very very poor. The food was good — we tried different types of salads and dessert and it was all good but the service was very dissapointing.

I’ve not eaten formally in the restaurant which is on the left side of the establishment. I’ve been to the bar several times over several visits. It sits just east of the Jordaan not far from the Westerkerk in a cool part of the city. If its available, the best place to enjoy a nice Dutch Triple is at the tables outside so you can watch the world go by. They serve your basic bar faire(get the assortment of Dutch greasy bits)…goes well with the beer. We watched the last game of the Euro Cup there and it was the perfect place to chill and watch football on their elevated big screen.

Besides the hiccup in making a reservation(scheduled online, confirmed via email, but then told when I arrived that there was confusion about whether my reservation was for the restaurant or the bar? Why would I be making a reservation for anything BUT the restaurant?) … we loved our dinner here. Facts: 7:15 pm dinner, the bar was INSANELY busy, the restaurant was 50% full and filling, we were seated in the back directly in front of the kitchen, the waitstaff was attentive. Review: The pre-dinner bread and tapenade that is brought to the table is good, not great but nice. My husband, his business colleague from the US and I fit very nicely at the back table and ordered quickly. I ordered the redfish and the men both ordered the duck. Our bottle of wine was quickly brought to our table next and it was good. Then, honestly, our conversation kicked in and the dinner just flowed and satisfied. I think that’s the main reason I liked this place, it was super comfortable and everything was very satisfying. My redfish entrée, for instance, was perfect! The redfish had a crispy crust of some sort that was not fried or greasy, and it was served with a mild spinach and cream sauce over a mound of really delicious, tomato-y risotto. There were also a few perfectly cooked green beans layered within the dish. The bar seemed to clear out a bit after dinner, but was still a busy place. I found Van Puffelen because it was on a list of good and affordable Amsterdam restaurants, and now I concur! Great place.

Sehr nettes Lokal mit Sitzplätzen an der Gracht. Kleine leckere Karte und die übliche Amstel Bierkarte. Sitze hier und blinzle übers Wasser gegen die untergehende Sonne… Sehr nett! Multikulti Publikum und sehr nette Atmosphäre…
