The staff were very friendly and spoke English fluently so it was very easy to communicate with them. The appetizers were excellent especially the tomato soup, the spinach salad and the antipasti. For our main course, we had the lamb which was very good but needed to be seasoned a little better, the chicken was a little small for the price. For dessert we had the apple pie which was fantastic.

My absolute favorite restaurant in Amsterdam! I had a goat cheese and bacon sandwich that was phenomenal. An adorable café with a great menu and atmosphere

While some on here have said, «Oui, Oui.» I’m leaning more to, «No, no.» It’s kind of my own fault though. I went against my cardinal rule which was to order a meal that is not the specialty… lol I ordered the flank steak and the waitress said they recommended it cooked medium rare.(That is code for you are getting it that way no matter how you order it.) Unfortunately for me that is the correct way to cook a steak but just not the way I like them. I asked for mine medium but I knew in my heart it wasn’t gonna come out that way. And I was right! The steak was still, «Moo’ing» when they brought it out! Poor Bessy! Now the server did come over and ask if everything was okay but I know better then to send a steak back to the kitchen for a little re-heating. It took a lot of will power not to shove olé Bessy in the young cook’s face and scream at him that it wasn’t even close to Medium. But alas, I made my way under cooked bed and now must lay in it :) The good news… the salad was tasty.

This place is just ok. I went here for lunch today with another Unilocaler from New York and we weren’t dissatisfied with our lunch, but definitely not satisfied. This place has really great ingredients– all fresh and of good quality– but the story ends there. They take their fresh ingredients and make something that I can easily make at home. Tastes good but nothing special. I won’t be back again. FYI– I got the salmon avocado sandwich.

Stopped for a coffee on a bike tour. Great outside eating in a quiet area outside the city. Nice place to stop and relax and my coffee was adequate to pass the time. Would stop here again for sure.

This place is fantastic! The service is great, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is relaxing. This is a popular place with the locals; there are not many tourists. Many mothers bring their newborns here for lunch time but Dutch babies are very polite. They don’t cry until they are outside. Overall I highly recommend this café.

This is such a gem! We happened upon it when we first moved back in July and it’s a keeper. They make wonderful food, they have good service, and the ambiance is welcoming and warm.

My husband and I came to this place while visiting from Chicago(since we were staying across the street). The staff was extremely friendly and the food was perfect. The steak salad was unique and delicious. We also ordered the tomato and pumpkin soups which were very nice as well.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. It’s small but charming. The patio is super for a relaxing morning snack. Dinner is also great. I had the goat cheese Ravioli with pine nuts tonight. This place seems to cater to the locals. I’ve been here many times, always busy, always friendly. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is situated in a beautiful, picturesque neighborhood.(Then again, what neighborhood in Amsterdam ISN’T beautiful and picturesque!) We were seated immediately for lunch. I had the coppa di parma sandwich and tomato basil soup. Both were absolutely divine. The sandwich came open faced. It had a nice salty taste from the ham and artichoke and a perfect crunch from the pine nuts. I loved how they topped it off with watercress. The soup was rich and thick and had great flavors and it had a great balance of acidity and sweetness. I’ve had my share of tomato soups and this is up there with one of the best I’ve tried. My lunch was served with a glass of Leffe blonde beer which went so well with the sandwich and soup. Service was decent. I would go back to this place if I make it back to Amsterdam.

We were recommended to eat here by a bartender at another place and were blown away. The chef and staff know what they are doing and truly made for a wonderful experience.

very charming little place, I know europe is known for lack of service but the hospitality was actually very very good. our server was super sweet. they didn’t have chocolate croissants tho, and muesli was pretty standard. I told my friend to try hagelslag(what I call«adult sprinkles» hahahaha) here and it was fun. coffee was very good too.

We went here for a late lunch after a day at the museums. Super cute café in a lovely neighborhood with excellent service. We had the tomato soup and the pumpkin soup(daily special) and both were fantastic. Fresh, whole ingredients really made the flavors of the soups shine. The prices were also very reasonable. This is a great spot to have a drink or light meal while people watching — I would definitely return again.

We stopped by for a late lunch on our way back from Vondel Park. The vegetarian quiche was fantastic… fresh vegetables and cheeses and lovely mild vinaigrette salad with nuts. The toasties are very hot and delish… very cheesy with sweet tomato. Very intimate setting with outdoor tables and neighborhood vibe. Family friendly.

I really liked this place a lot. The menu is small and the kitchen is even smaller — but there was some really nice food coming out of that tiny kitchen. If you’re out walking in this very cute neighborhood, definitely pop in here for some surprisingly good food. Just to put the cherry on top, it’s quite reasonably priced.

Had a nice lunch here — delicious tomato soup and ham and cheese toastie. Terrific whole grain bread and very friendly waiter. Wife and daughter were equally pleased. And the website says, «And to attest to the area’s child-friendliness, the Bosboom Toussaintstraat with its many children-oriented stores is referred to as ‘Amsterdam’s delivery room.’ «This seemed accurate — lots of pregnant women and young mothers with children in the café and area.

I have to admit that I’ve only enjoyed their soup. Which is the trouble I have with this café. Their soups are so outstanding, I never think to order anything else. In fact, if the Toussaint people are reading this, please, please do something to downgrade your soups so I can order something else off the menu. Bright and cheery even on cloudy and gloomy days(and we know Amsterdam has neither) Café Toussaint is a great date place. Check out how the employees have to go downstairs to their storage room.

Cute little café in a gorgeous neighbourhood. I was there for lunch and we had the tomato soup and the goats cheese and bacon salad. Both were delicious and perfect for a typical cold/sunny/rainy all over the place Amsterdam day. While it took quite a long time for our meals to come out(40 minutes maybe) it didn’t worry me too much and I’ll definitely be going back.

I was alerted to the presence of this small French café by my DK Eyewitness guidebook for Amsterdam. Tucked away in the northern section of the museum district, this café is far enough removed from the hustle and bustle of the really touristy streets of this section, which makes it feel like a hidden local secret. We walked passed the upscale street with all the Burberry, Hugo Boss, Chanel, etc stores and their associated overpriced bistros and cafes to hunt down this café, I can’t say enough of how happy we were we decided to! The food was A-mazing, and the prices were probably the most ridiculous part of our lunch. A massive(and delicious) lamb burger was only 8.5 euro, with a Sprite the whole meal fell under 10 euro, something hard to do even at fast food places here in Amsterdam sometimes. Hands down if you’re going to see some of the museums in this district, or just going for a walk and want a solid lunch go out of your way to find this. It’s also close to a couple tram lines(find a map with them on it). PS. The menu was translated into English for foreigners!
