The atmosphere was a bit too «cheap Vegas strip» for me. The food was okay at best but overpriced. Many better opportunities to eat off of the main roads which this one is on.

Fairly good food in Amsterdam. Interesting, fresh & tender. Service was average, ambience somewhat on the noisy side & rather ordinary. We had only several of the tapas, but they were quite good, especially the blue tostada with beef.

Had a good dinner here. Steak was perfectly cooked and very enjoyable. A bit touristy but the restaurant felt modern so it wasnt so stuffy.

On of the best steaks I ever eat in my life! Will definitely recommend this place to meat lovers.

Great atmosphere and service. Flavor was a little lacking on the steak but the pork belly and mac were great.

Two floor restaurant with plenty of seating and food throughout the day. I recommend the fish stew that came with bread — it was delicious! They also had smoothies and shakes along with cocktails. Overall great dining experience!

One thing that I couldn’t help notice whilst in Amsterdam was the sheer abundance of Argentinian restaurants. They are EVERYWHERE! Scott and I even went to a fajita place for lunch that turned out to be an Argentinian restaurant.
We had walked past CAU a few times during our visit (not realising it was an Argentinian place) and thought it looked really nice from the outside, so we planned to go there at some point during out stay. After checking out the reviews on Unilocal we decided we definitely had to go.
We went on a Monday evening, and although it was exceptionally busy, we managed to get a table without a reservation.
After a while a waitress came and took our order. We ordered quite a few things from the menu, including a starter and some cocktails. We noticed the waitress didn’t write anything down, and after she went off to sort out our order we actually said ‘how is she going to remember all that!’… 2 minutes later, the waitress came back as she had indeed forgotten half of our order which we then repeated back to her.
We did wait quite a long time for our food, at least 30 minutes. I know it was busy but we thought it was strange that our starter hadn’t arrived. Finally, our food did arrive, sans the starter and one portion of chips that we had ordered. Turns out the waitress STILL managed to forget some of the things we ordered. She managed to sort out some chips for us but pretty much told us to forget the starter (we weren’t prepared to wait ages for it, and we did have a lot of food between us anyway)
I opted for the sirloin steak, whilst Scott went for a burger. We had some triple cooked chips, coleslaw and truffle mac and cheese to share. The steak was fantastic and I daresay the best I ever had. The truffle mac and cheese was delicate, would have preferred a stronger cheese flavour, and the home made coleslaw was delicious. The triple cooked chips were decieving — you don’t get a massive portion but the sheer size of the chips themselves are something else! I managed about 2 chips and couldn’t eat any more.
Apart from the mishap with the waitress. I’d say it was a fantastic meal.
TL;DR? slow service, ditzy waitress but absolutely amazing food in a very nice setting.

Great restaurant! Very busy on weekend so make a reservation. Steak was very good, I had the ribeye, hubby had the rump. Pork cheek appetizer, bruschetta great appetizers. We also enjoyed the three cooked potatoes, grilled mushrooms and corn. Mac n cheese was just ok. OMG the dessert was WONDERFUL!!! We had the ice cream Sunday with Frosted Flakes. Try it you will love it!!!

I was pleasantly surprised by this great place. It was really good! For a place that’s in the middle of a busy tourist area it’s a Great spot to nip into and grab a meal to fill your belly! The burger was so good and filled us for the whole day. We may have over indulged! The staff are really nice and attentive and the service was quick. Great place to sit after a day of sight seeing and shopping.

Come for the steaks,. Do you actually need anything else?
I managed to bag a table at peak time by pretending to be David Guetta, you need to book ahead because this place is very busy.
On to the food: astoundingly good beef steaks and sides, well prepared and not too expensive.
Amsterdam has many steak houses, but this is a genuine article.

This is a very cool little place, not too far from Dam Square and so easy to access from just about any location in Central Amsterdam.
The setting is a mix between urban chic and just plain cool. You can eat outside if you like, go upstairs, or eat on the first floor. I’ve done all three and the service has been excellent on each occasion.
The meat is very very good, and generally very nicely prepared. The side dishes are very generous in portion size and also very nicely prepared. Last time around I tried the classic burger, and in the past have tried the steak and the steak sandwich. All are excellent.
One word of warning: They restaurant has the tendency to cook the meat one step below what you ask for: So if you want your food to be cooked medium, for example, best to ask for medium well. Otherwise, yo will not be disappointed at all.

Fantastic food at the right price.
Don’t miss the Malamado glazed pork cheeks, three pieces of tender glory on a super subtle yogurt mirror. The Pork belly is also fantastic. Their menu is very solidly executed and the beef cuts Argentine style are perfectly finished.

Great food and service. The manager checked in to see that things were up to our liking. Dining outside offered great views of the action on the roads and sidewalks. Restrooms were very clean and ample. Great place for lunch or dinner.

Cau was my first steak house try in Amsterdam and need to say it’s still in top 2 with Lootje. It’s right at Dam Square makes it an easy access. Reservation is a must especially during weekend. Try one of their juicy, tender steak offers. They are serving corn aside– which is for me a big win!

Amsterdam has a lot of steak houses, Argentinians in particular, so if not a lot of Unilocal reviews are available it is difficult to pick the right one.
This place had good Unilocal reviews and came recommended by the Doubletree Hilton hotel we stayed at.
The place is crowded so is best is to get a reservation in advance. We were seated right away because we had a reservation.
For appetizers we ordered the chorizo and cream cheese empanadas and park cheeks. Both amazing, the pork chees were melting in your mouth server with a light yogurt sauce that cut some of the fat taste and made it amazing. The empanadas had a unique smoke taste from the chorizo they were creamy inside with a flaky crust on the outside, my favorite as an appetizer. For main courses we had steak, pork belly, portabella mushroom and chimichuri sauce as side dishes. The steak was seasoned cooked perfectly, very tender, almost did not need a knife. Pork belly was crispy on top and cooked very well. Everything tasted amazing. A definite steak house to visit. Staff service was good as well. Also they serve half of a bottle of wine for certain wine selections, which is nice if you don’t want an entire bottle for the meal.

Really good burgers! If you’re looking for something worth sitting down for then come here. You may have to wait ten minutes or so but just use that time to people watch.

CAU is an awesome steakhouse located right near Dam Square on a relatively busy street. This was probably the best steak place I have eaten in the Netherlands. I ordered the Lomito with a side of Mac n cheese and I must say, mmmmmm! The cut was a very traditional argentine cut that was cooked to absolute perfection, they also put this blue cheese sauce stuff on the side that made the steak taste absolutely amazing. Pair this with a seasonal Heineken and some truffle Mac and you have yourself a wonderful meal. The location itself is fantastic and very modern and it is all topped off with fantastic service. Overall CAU is awesome and a perfect spot for you to get your carnivorous needs fulfilled.

Pretty good food and lively atmosphere. I can’t give it 5 stars because I’m just had better steak elsewhere. The flavor was good and there are different flavors. My only two knocks against it are the lack of char flavoring and tenderness of the steak. I ordered the de ancho although flavorful, it was a little tough.
Great atmosphere and a fun place to start a night out.

Wir hatten einen burger und einen chickensalat die waren sau teuer und sehr wenig und nicht zum empfehlen!
Zum Schluss kam die rechnung und dann wurden wir hingewiesen das der service nicht inklusive ist !

Awesome steak house in Amsterdam a second off Dam Square. Great personable service, awesome appetizers and meal. Will go back every time I visit and recommend to friends. On par with steak houses in NYC. I know I love my beef!

Une alte sympa dans un cadre feutré. Hamburger et grillades de qualité, frite ou salade au choix. Cuisine ouverte sur salle. L’accueil était stressé. Pas de places à l’étage: seul bémol. Excellent vin chilien: pinot noir. Je conseille vraiment ce restaurant. Prix toutefois élevé. Très bon rapport qualité prix.

Zugegeben habe ich hier erst gesehen, das es sich um ein Steakhaus handelte!
Und doch bin ich als Vegetarierin hier gelandet.
Wir hatten einen Süsskartoffel-​Rucolasalat, der grossartig war, bis auf das der Kellner vergessen hat, das wir ihn OHNE Wurst bestellt haben, die war aber überschaubar und gut auszusortieren!
Dazu hatten wir eine kleine Gemüse“Auberginen“lasagne für 6,95 € der Name Klein ist hier Programm, es hatte in etwa die Größe von 2 Racletteschäufelchen.
Es ist sehr schwer in Amsterdam gutes und vor allem gesundes Essen zu finden, dei Esskultur hängt da leider etwas nach!
Auch wenn die Portionen überschaubar war, so waren sie sehr gut und wir waren froh einen Salat zu finden, der auch noch schmeckt!

Para un sitio en el que encontramos ensaladas con aliño, van y se olvidan (aparentemente) de echarlo. Es una maldición. Claro que tampoco le han echado la salsa barbacoa a la hamburguesa BBQ que, por otra parte, estaba bastante buena, con una carne muy jugosa y una cebolla de la que sigues comiendo hasta bien entrada la tarde.
El brownie es bastante mediocre, con los bordes terriblemente secos y una receta no muy usual, aunque viene acompañado de un helado de vainilla superior al que he comido otros días por aquí, porque se ve que el saborizante no debe ser el mismo.
Lo que choca a casi todo el mundo es que, siendo los precios bastante altos, el servicio no esté incluido y tengas que apuntar tú en la factura cuánto le dejas a la persona que te ha atendido. He visto al menos a dos mesas no dejando nada extra y marchándose airadas, lo que creo que no es buen negocio para los camareros ni para el dueño.

Laden liegt mitten im Touri-​Epizentrum, was eigenltich nichts gtes verheißt. Dauernd kommen Leute rein und fragen nach freien Tischen, was meistens frustran war, da in den 3 Stunden die wir da waren immer alle Tische belegt waren. Wir haben online einen Tisch reserviert, so dass wir keine Probleme hatten. Die Vorspeise (Gambias) war ok. Das Steak war sehr gut. Das von meiner Frau war medium bestellt und kam well-​done. Kein Problem, da der Manager sich bei jedem erkundigt wie das essen ist, hat er es anstandslos wieder mitgenommen und gegen ein neues ausgetauscht. Die Küche ist offen mit einem offenen Gasgrill. Das Steak ist im Vergleich zu ähnluchen Steinhäusern eher günstig aber sehr lecker. Die Pfeffersosße aber nicht zu empfehlen, lieber die Chimichurri und Pommes. Das passt. Geräuschpegel sehr hoch (s. oben). Service sehr gut für ein Touri-​Hotspot.
