Second best thing about Amsterdam… No dealing with staff or waiting around for your«fast”-food, simply go in, make your choice and out your money into machine, press one of the buttons and pick up your goodies, 24÷7… I’d go for the chilli burger, «basti» a kind of Indian samosa in batter or the«satekrotet»… Imagine they are terrible for you but having sampled the best thing about Amsterdam, I found myself eating several and returning for the novelty factor probably more than anything else… FEEEEEBOOOOOO

The only reason I got the chicken sandwich was because I wanted a touristy photo op with the vending machine style dispensers, but it was so good I ended up getting another, haha. Febo is good stuff!

Oh Febo, you Dutch temptress you! My first experience here was after a very long day roaming the streets of Amsterdam. Our tour guide highly recommended this fast food chain as the food is good and the novelty of the vending machine option in the front. I tried the vending machine veal croquette and hot wings from the counter. The veal croquette was exception, the outside is crispy, golden brown fried goodness while the inside was a mix of veal and potato. It was truly exceptional for less than 2 Euros. The hot wings on the other hand was a bit stale, but I somehow managed to cram 5 of them in my tummy before getting back to the hotel. Anyway, I think this is the perfect place for late night munchies. And also– I am still a little confused on how the vending machine works since it never gave me back any change but it made for a good laugh because we just stood there and waited for what seemed like infinity. I also came back the following morning to try a different variety of the croquette, I am not sure if it was the harsh reality of daylight that set in or not but it did not taste nearly as good as the veal croquette from the night before. Its best to reserve Febo for late night munchies.

I like how they have this place set up. It’s like fast food vending machine. If you’re going to eat crap food they should serve it like crap food. For a late night fix, this place does the job as you walk back to your hotel after a long night of heavy drinking. Don’t worry, you won’t regret your decisions until the morning.

Think fast food that can’t get any faster.

The Dutch would probably kill me for saying this, but besides pancakes, this was one of the only places that I could identify as truly Dutch. I swear I looked everywhere for pea soup and some other things that I had heard were eaten in the Netherlands, but did not have any luck! Maybe I should try harder next time. My last night in Amsterdam, I took a tour and realized I had waited too long to eat and most restaurants were closing. There in the distance was the yellow glow of the Febo sign. I walked in and examined the offerings, and since I don’t read or speak Dutch, I just guessed what I was getting. Being the idiot American that I am, I put my euro coin into the machine and then could not figure out how to open the door. The guys working laughed and teased me, but they were very friendly. I ended up with two croquettes — one was filled with cheese and the other was filled with some mystery meat. I thought both tasted just fine. I also bought a small chocolate milkshake, which was delicious, but tasted quite a bit different from milkshakes in the U.S. People joke about Febo being just for drunk people, but as I walked back to my hotel, with snow lightly falling, eating my fried cheese, I was very happy and enjoyed the experience.

Found myself here after a night out where anything sounded good. It’s an interesting concept but the food was pretty bad. Even in the middle of the night without many other options, and craving a bite to eat it was a disappointment.

Febo is underrated. Food served from a machine is not necessarily bad. For late night drunk snack, Febo is the ideal.

Febo is the Dutch fast food company, very popular with several locations all around the country, but differently from the most popular chains food is put into a vending machine after it’s done. You can also order directly at the desk, but if you have some coins or change your bills at the machine by the entrance, you should simply get your favorite item directly from the wall. Quality is not exceptional, but still OK. I especially stopped here late at night before returning home. Besides croquettes and burgers, I suggest the chicken legs, just regular chicken meat even if most probably frozen.

I don’t care how fried or cheap everything was. FEBO was NOTOKAY. When I was there, I decided to be a good tourist for once and try a Dutch kroket. MISTAKE. The kroket had a hard fried crust on the outside and meat and potato filling on the inside that was reminiscent of Elmer’s glue. To this day, I still tell my friends of the horrors of FEBO.

Wish this existed in America. Closest thing is a vending machine, but doesnt even compare. I just love the concept. Kroket… you are so delicious!

Before you scoff at the idea of eating at a burger joint that functions primarily as a vending machine, remember that everything is made fresh and nothing sits out for more than 20 minutes at a time… which you can never guarantee when you order fast food back in the states! This particular location is my favorite because it seems to be one of the few that carries vegetarian burgers — one that tastes better than some of the most expensive veggie burgers I’ve had! They have an expanded menu if you’re looking for something other than krokets, kassouffles, and other various fried goodness. Everything is very cheap as well, I think we spent about 8 euros for 2 burgers, 2 fries with mayonnaise, and 2 bottles of water. Incredible!

Why am I so excited to write a review of a burger vending machine joint? Yes, you heard right — Febo is a giant burger vending machine. They sell other fast-food type stuff, too. I saw a similar joint on the Food Network — but that place was located in NY. So when I stumbled across Febo, I got a little giddy. I must admit. Thus, my generous 4-star rating. The idea of beinng able to spend less then 3 euros for lunch in Europe should make anyone giddy with excitement. Also, everything is made fresh even though it’s technically a giant vending machine — we were told that no item is out longer than 20 minutes. And if you don’t like what they have on display, you can order from the larger menu. Under 3 euros AND made fresh? That gets four stars from me. There are no seats, but you really don’t need any. Your food is served in a paper tray and the condiments are out on the counter. You do need exact change, and they have a change machine in every Febo to help you out. And I realize everything tastes better after a few drinks, so in case you’re wondering, YES — I was sober when I ate here. Although I bet it tastes a-freakin-mazing after a night of pub-hopping ;) This particular location is located on Leidsestraat, which is smack in the middle of the shopping district.
