For staying in downtown Amsterdam the location was good. IT was across from the train station and near the point where tours start — both Canal and Bus. The mini-bar use was included in the price, I guess if you used it frequently it might cost you an additional $ 20 – 30 of supplies, and they pick the contents not you(and not elegant). My vote, ignore that feature and buy better quality wine, beer, and snacks at the store. The«Museum-like» appearance of the place was another plus. They never got wake up calls working at all. We nearly missed both the tour and our return flight. All their recommendations(tours, restaurants, …) were the most expensive with clearly money in their pocket. Find places by looking on internet or talking to others. The HVAC system never worked, making it challenging to sleep. Staff were not knowledgeable, the person booking the tour said all the low costs ones were sold out or unavailable at the hotel(even thought the hotel was listed as a stop) — contradicting the tour center. Their«discounts» are available everywhere. They also send you to the wrong place to get the bus, bad if you have any walking challenges. Pricey hotels are ok with you me if you get the value for that price. This is not the case.

I stayed here for a week during March 2015. The staff here are the best I have ever encountered! From the bar staff to the concierge, everyone was helpful and always had a funny story to tell. It’s not as pricey during the colder months, also there is no air conditioning. So the summer months must be horrid. This hotel is also within walking distance of everything!!!

Grand Amrath Hotel was a treat for me for my 21st birthday. I booked through Top Secret Hotels so initially didn’t know I was booking here but so glad I chose to go for it! The hotel is so lovely and so are the staff. You don’t need to dress in designer clothing to be treated properly; I rocked up in no makeup, a baggy jacket and leggings and got treated like a Queen. Our room was very comfortable and modern looking but also had character that new hotels lack. We had a huge bed, an LCDTV, nespresso machine, hairdryer, trouser press and safe. There was also a complimentary mini bar that gets restocked every day — usually you have to pay a fortune for a tiny bottle in most hotels. Our bathroom had two sinks, a shower and a bath that was so deep that bubble baths were very relaxing in it. There’s a Health and Wellbeing suite in the hotel that was never that busy which I liked as I could relax in peace. There was a swimming pool with what looked like lights on the ceiling which were really pretty. I loved the jacuzzi and was brave enough to go into the hot sauna. The hotel also has a gym but I had ate way too many pancakes and couldn’t muster the energy to workout. When you’re inside the hotel, it’s important to look up as there’s a beauty of a ceiling that you won’t want to miss. The location of the hotel is excellent. It’s only a couple of minutes from Amsterdam train station and it’s close to a few little newsagent and souvenir shops. Hopefully I’ll be able to come back here again, the views from our room were beautiful!

Not sure where to begin with this review. We booked this hotel for our honeymoon based on the«luxury» amenities that it offers. It labels itself as a «5-star» hotel but that could not be further from the truth. This hotel is odd — and not in a good way; more like a Beetlejuice kind of way. It is creepy and not very welcoming at all. The layout of the hotel is frustrating and feels like a maze. The interior design of the hotel is dated and worn. The elevator is painfully slow. I can go on and on… The check-in was quick and they allowed us to go to our room early. Very nice. Wi-Fi worked perfectly the entire stay. The room was small but it did have a beautiful canal/city view and minimal street noise up on the 4th floor. It was fine until we checked the mini-bar and found it to be almost completely empty. After about 45 minutes, someone came up to fill it. No problem. We stayed here for 5 nights and found no real problems other than that. That is until I used the shower and found that the glass door did not close all the way. This led to massive puddles of water all over the bathroom floor. Keep in mind that this is a «5-star» hotel. Whatever. On the final night of our stay, we arrived back to our room after a day of sightseeing to find all of our dishes, cups and glasses that we used for coffee, water, soda, etc., left in the bathroom sink which was filled with disgusting filthy brown water.(See photos.) Absolutely disgusting. Are you meaning to tell me that housekeeping can’t be bothered to give their guests CLEAN cups and glasses? They just rinse them in the bathroom sink with filthy water? Totally ridiculous. It makes you wonder what else this hotel does that would horrify its guests if they found out. After complaining downstairs, we were upgraded to a much nicer suite, however, there was one problem — the room was located on the second floor and the street/bike/pedestrian noise kept us up all night. It felt like we were sleeping right outside. This was the absolute worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Totally absurd. Also, people are raving about the location of this hotel. The location of this hotel is only convenient if you are taking the train from the airport to Central Station. Otherwise, many of the shops, nice neighborhoods, and museums are at least a 15 minute walk away.

After staying in hostels, budget inns, and camping during our entire Europe trip, we decided to book a 5 star surprise hotel through Hotwire to end the trip. We were so happy we did. ROOM: Though smaller than US hotel rooms, the Amrath had its own character and enough room for two of us. The bed was comfy. The room boasted a bed, table, LCD tv, and armoire. The roomy bathroom had separate shower and tubs as well as a double sink. LOCATION: Located in the Centrum area about a 5 minute walk from the train station Approximately a 20 – 25 minute train ride to the airport which costed about 5 € Within a 25 – 30 minute walking distance from the Red Light District, Heineken Experience, many beautiful canals WHATTOKNOW: *There is a city tax that they charge you upon checkout. We weren’t informed checking in. It was 17 € for two nights. *Complimentary wifi *In room safe and mini fridge with complimentary items(wine, sodas, water, small liquor bottles) which is refilled every day *In room Nespresso machine(the machine looked like it needed cleaning when I opened it so I passed) with pods, tea bags, and tea/coffee cups *Restaurant and bar located in the lobby of the hotel(though there are many bars and restaurants in walking distance) *Complimentary toiletries, sewing kit, vanity kit, shower cap *Robe and slippers are placed on your bed upon arrival *There was some kind of press on the side of the amoire… we were guessing possibly a slack press?

Stunning building inside & out, great location, facilities & helpful staff provide a true 5 star experience. Enjoy the complimentary fully stocked mini bar & get a bike from the concierge in the morning to explore the town. Most comfortable bed in my month’s travel of Europe.
