Keep going!

A great concept — coffee/tea time with cats roaming about! Take the tram 13, and get off at Marco Polostraat stop, cross the street and it’s pretty much«kitty-corner» to that stop. Staff is very friendly as well. It will be wise to book an appointment(can be done online) before showing up, especially on the weekends. This place is popular, and fills up quickly. Each time slot is 2 hours, which is sufficient enough I think. One last note, this place is CLEAN. No smells at all, which is good to know as food/drink is also served in the same area where the cats hang out.

My Dutch buddy clued me in to this place. Relatively new, off the tourist track and pretty unique. He made reservations for us online. The brownies were awesome and the hot chocolate with it’s high cocoa content was delicious and kind of psychotropic, IMHO. The owner, Lenny Popelier was there on the late Sunday afternoon we visited. She was very pleasant and gracious. Kopjes seems like a real locals place which I enjoy. Before we went there, we hung out at a large, nearby playground that was unusually sunny for Amsterdam in mid-October when the shadows grow long in the late afternoon. I must say that the cats there are extremely chill/lazy. Sleeping seems to be their main activity but from my experience with cats, that’s what they do during the day. It was fun and I would return.

I don’t have enough words to express how utterly lovely this place is. I went for the cats, and that in itself would have been nice, but there’s so much more to appreciate here, from the cat themed everything(even the bathroom door) to the delicious food. I had red velvet cake and the home made granola, and both were delicious. My favourite part, though, was that the owners are so clearly crazy about the cats. It doesn’t feel like a business, it feels like an old friend’s sun-filled lounge. Definitely recommend! Be sure to book in advance!

Super famous in Japan(where tenants usually can’t have pets at home), the concept of cat cafes is spreading quickly around the world. Now Amsterdam(well, The Netherlands really) has one to call their own! Kopjes is an amazing place to visit, but keep in mind my that reservations are recommended — especially now in the beginning when it’s such a hotspot in the city. I was lucky enough to just walk in without a reservation on my first visit, but could only stay inside for 30min, instead of the typical 2h time slot. The cats(all rescued) are adorable, super chilled and minding their own business. As every other normal cat, they sleep A LOT, so curb your expectations to see kittens running around like crazy. You will probably just sit there and pet the sleepy creatures. The house rules are simple, and must be followed: don’t pick up the cats, don’t feed them, don’t bother their sleep, and don’t take pictures with flash. The menu has limited options, but I’ve tried the Red Velvet Cake and it was *PAWsome*. They also serve a refreshing non-sparkly lemonade(which is basically Karvan Cévitam, hahah), teas, and an average coffee. I’ve heard the salted caramel brownie is incredible, but I have not tried it yet. Oh, the desserts are homemade by a friend of the owner. Nice, huh? There’s an entrance fee of € 3, but I assure you it will be worth it — well, especially if you’re there for the cats! Kopjes is a place for everyone who loves cats(being a cat-guardian or not), and for everyone looking for different attractions in the city. Let me know what you think if you visit this place, ‘kay?

This is a nice café if you don’t have a pet of your own — the cats living here are adorable, friendly, and hilarious. The coffee and cakes are delicious as well, and the staff are lovely. I expect that this place will come into its own soon enough. At the moment, it’s a bit stilted and awkward, probably because you need to make a reservation and then sit in a small, quiet, music-free room with 10 other strangers and subtly compete with each other for the cats’ attention. A little uncomfortable. But like I said, I think all the pieces will slot together soon enough and it’ll be a very cozy place to go.

Finally the concept arrived in Amsterdam: cuteness overload aka cat café. The 8 members of the family are former asylum cats that got lucky to find a new home full of people ready to hug and pet them. Some of them fully enjoy being the center of attention, others prefer to watch the new situation from a safe corner. The staff is busy not only serving but also reminding the guests of the rules(don’t feed the cats, don’t lift them up, don’t touch the ones that hide). At the moment the whole city is queuing to visit, that’s why you can’t just walk in but you have to make a reservation and can get a spot for 2 hours.
