Stadscafe Van Mechelen

Good atmosphere, friendly service, good food & drinks. Many smaller tables for two persons. A couple large tables for groups of 8+. Recommended.

Une très belle adresse de par le cadre, l’ambiance, la décoration et l’architecture soignées du lieu, avec cuisine semi-​ouverte sur la salle. Un peu éloigné du centre, sur un canal calme? qui aurait pu être une bonne halte après une journée de vélo.
Mais très déçu par la nourriture, pour ma part un burger sans goût, trop de pain desséché/​grillé, pas assez de quantité sur les éléments, pauvre bande de fromage de 2 cm sur 5 qui s’était collé sur mon pain… Bacon presque carbonisé, frites-​allumettes congelées, salade pas assaisonnée. De la cuisine d’assemblage, aucun respect du produit. En face de moi un poisson frit et surcuit, sa salade était assaisonnée au moins. Mais ses frites sont arrivées à la moitié. D’ailleurs ce né sont pas des «french-​fries». Aucunes traçabilités et origines.
Alors que 2 étoiles pour les prix élevés, la serveuse qui pousse et prends la commande sur son iPhone, (la carte en anglais dès le 1er coup nous aurait aidé à choisir plus vite). mais pas 1 étoile: J’avais faim j’ai été au bout de mon assiette de pain/​burger :-) et je me verrais plutôt y prendre le café en terrasse ou essayer un petit-​dej.

Wir hatten keine Lust, im Hotel zu frühstücken und so schwangen wir uns auf unsere Fahrräder und radelten eben die Gracht herunter, einem Unilocal Tipp folgend. Das Frühstück war sehr lecker, aber günstig war es nicht. Das Ambiente ist toll — man sitzt in einer ehemaligen Autowerkstatt mit Backsteinwänden. Viele alte Blechreklameschilder, wild zusammengewürfeltes Mobiliar, eine besondere, wenn auch nicht einzigartige Atmosphäre. Das Personal ist sehr nett, kann man absolut machen.

Nice beers, nice ambiance. Didn’t have food but it looked really nice. I also likes the fact there was an outside area that was covered meaning that even if it’s raining you can still be outside. Inside was a bit noisy…

This place is genius. Their interior, menus, prices, and staff look completely unpretentious bordering on «dive bar» (as this pub is classified). But the food and drinks are by contrast shockingly high-​quality. Everything I’ve had here has been incredibly enjoyable and I want to go back again and again. Perfect atmosphere, perfect for any casual occasion, and one of Amsterdam’s best-​kept secrets!

I know I’m very positive with the majority of my reviews, but all just seems to work out wherever I go. :-)
Went for a quick drink and bite to van Mechelen with a colleague after already been there for drinks, and it’s a great place! It feels very relaxed and especially the staff are amazingly friendly, open and nice. They also serve something called a ‘Magnum’, which is a 0.75 liter bottle of a special beer. Every month they have a different beer for just € 10, — and provides you with two good glasses and a great bottle.
We both went for the burger, which were server extremely fast! The fries seemed a bit deep-​fried, but were tasty. The burger was very nicely done. I’d suggest maybe creating a ‘special’ sauce that is unique to ‘Van Mechelen’, but it has great taste out of its own.
Go here for a drink, for some food, some great atmosphere, or anything else!

I liked the look of this place, but found the menu slightly disappointing. As another reviewer pointed out, there really aren’t so many interesting options, but if you are looking for a simple and quick bite, you will find something acceptable. The service was pretty good. The staff are friendly. The atmosphere is very nice, although they could use some heat lamps in the outdoor area. I wouldn’t make a special trip to go here but if you’re in the neighborhood give it a go.

Have to say, they nailed it!
After going for drinks a couple of weeks ago we decided to go for dinner tonight. We had the duck breast salad as a starter (recommended) and as main we had the rib-​eye and a quiche! The personnel is also very friendly and attentive!
The cheese platter with an accompanying glass of Port will arrive in a minute; hopefully it will be just as good as the rest of the meal (prices are fine as well).
Highly recommend ‘café mechelen’ and also love the interior!

Found this little place two doors from our appartement. Great atmosphere, menu is ok. No too much variation, but if you are looking for a quick bite (hamburgers/​soup/​lunch) it’s the perfect place.
Waitress are friendly, although they mixed a few items up they just left it on the table and brought the right juices asap. Also recommend the breakfast (juice/​thee/​egg on bread with ham/​cheese/​croissant/​jam).
Will be going more often to try some new things.

Alternativ in einer ehemaligen Autowerkstatt (?)
Das Ambiente ist sehenswert: Da wurde das nicht Benötigte ausgeräumt, der Kran blieb an der Decke, die Wände ungestrichen, die Ergänzungen mit viel Gefühl integriert. Nur einheimisches Publikum. Die Küche ist überwiegend holländisch, es gibt aber zum Beispiel auch spanische chorizo (scharfe Würstchen).
Wir wohnten in der Nähe. In unserem B&B gab es nur Müsli, deshalb sind wir hier regelmäßig zum Frühstücken gegangen: Hervorragende Croissants, tolle Marmelade, guter Cappuccino. Zu zweit für EUR 12,05.
