The Bird Snackbar is the little brother(or sister) of The Bird Restaurant, located on the other side of the street. It serves as the take away of the restaurant and as a snackbar. Maybe the name«snackbar» is misleading, as in The NLs this means a place with unhealthy fatty snacks. The Thai know better how to do a snack. The Thai food is exactly the same as in the restaurant, but then for better prices and in a cosy atmosphere. Tables next to each other and around diner time this place will be packed, leaving you to wait in line outside until your name is called. When inside, you will find yourself in one of the best snackbars you can ever find yourself. The food is yummie. Thom Ka Kai is delicious and the meals are good proportionated. You an easily eat a soup and share meal and have enough. The only unfortunate thing is that they often run out of sticky rice(my favorite to dump into the soup). But it’s not worth crying over, because the food it sooo nice! If you want a more quite and long diner, go to the other side: the restaurant.

This tiny cramped place really knows how to whip up some dank Thai! We had red curry with beef and coconut milk and it was soo good! Nevermind that the customers barely fit inside the place, or that their kitchen is the size of a small bathroom – this Thai was freaking great.(And I know good Thai, being from the Bay Area in California.) It was a good size portion for my friend and I to share, with a plate of rice to accompany it. It was also pretty spicy for a request of medium spice, and warning: No tap water available here! They charge you for those pesky tiny bottles of Spa water that frequent Amsterdam. The ambience is minimal, as you can see the chef sweat over his pan as he cooks and the waitress drop to-go containers on the floor and add them to the stack – but despite these minor concerns, no one can deny the absolute deliciousness of the food! Will be back someday, I hope!

Probably the best Thai Food I haver ever eaten. It’s just a Snack Bar so don’t expect space, but even here you can find people queuing — because they didn’t get a seat in the restaurant on the other side of the street. Or are just desperate for a good snack!

Quality Thai food. Take aways are fast, I only waited for 7 minutes or so. No wonder, the kitchen(open) is packed with workers!

The first time I went there I ordered pad thai(with shrimp) and I have ever since. It’s usually really good, my food has been slightly burned a few times but hey! Just stay away from the springrolls. They are a huge dissapointment.

Chicken pad thai(#30?) — BESTEVER. Also, the chicken kabobs with whatever that peanut-y sauce is– also the best thing ever(we kept the leftover sauce on the plate and dipped a few bites of the pad Thai into the sauce– this stuff is amazing) The Tom Yum with prawns(#6) — I’ve had better.

I wandered over to this Thai snack bar in Amsterdam because I heard some pretty good reviews for this place. Confusingly, across the street are also 2 different restaurants also named Bird. I actually heard they have the same owner, or at least one of them does? It’s not too far from the train station, down a large pedestrian street, and is very easy to find by the large lit up sign. The place was a little crowded, with people even on the bench outside, but I got put on a table big enough for 4 people diagonally across a random friendly stranger. I got chicken with basil and chili. I asked for it hot because hey, I can handle hot… right? Added some extra Thai peppers on for good measure. … okay I’m really glad I got a Fanta to go with it because holy **** that was hot. It was so good though! Service was very fast and responsive, food is good, and they take card. Recommended!

I am not a big a fan of oriental food. In fact, it was my first time to a Thai restaurant but I really liked it. You shouldn’t take my word as one from an expert, but I enjoyed the meal, which is really worth both in quantity and quality what you pay. My favourite dish is the chicken with oyster sauce. There a couple of points that I would like to make. First, there is a small, cozy bar just in front of bird, which is run by the same people, same name and you can get the same food but much cheaper. Second, this other place is usually very, very crowded and it is not easy to get a table. If you want to save money and you don’t mind waiting or being not so spacious, I would advice you to go to this other Bird restaurant

Just 4mins from the train station, this little section of the restaurant lets you grab some really authentic dishes to take with you on the go. My absolute favorite thing to get here is the bakkaljaw. Delicious salty fish served over fried cassava. Absolutely the best street food to me. Magical little treat.

Fast, tasty, and authentic Thai food served up in a cramped, unassuming restaurant in the Zeedijk. If you are looking for a slower, more sit-down restaurant, feel free to venture across the street to the other Thais Bird. Don’t be alarmed when you arrive and there aren’t any tables left, as people are constantly coming in and out of the place. The menu is decently sized, but I recommend any of the soups and the 44A Chicken Penang Curry to really hit the spot on a chilly Amsterdam night!

Very tiny seating area, and crazy busy when I’ve gone there early evening. Perfect for take-out, or maybe if you get lucky with getting a table. The food is very good tho, and the prices reasonable for a touristic section of Amsterdam. For just under 20eu, I was stuffed, and I can eat and hadn’t eaten all day. Is it great Thai food? Well I know much better, but they are 1000’s of miles away. Certainly this is the the best I’ve come across in Amsterdam over a total of about 30 total days in town. I will certainly be back every time I am in town in the future

Yes, in this city known for it’s history, cannabis, & red lights, there is a fabulous little Thai restaurant tucked into an unassuming alleyway. The snackbar is the sister restaurant to the the Thaise restaurant across the street. This less formal, no reservations-required location is much more low key. I felt like I was invited to somebody’s house and their mom was cooking for me. There are about four tables and a 5 seat counter for you to enjoy. It’s not open that late so it’s not great for large groups or late night debauchery. Word of the wise, eat then go get yourself into some trouble with the red light ladies around the corner. Everything is delicious and you can’t go wrong ordering anything from the menu. Can’t decide between fried rice or noodles? What the hell, you’re in Amsterdam! Get them both! My favorite dish was the noodle and rice chicken stir-fry. Why stress on making decisions when you can get the best of both worlds.

This little restaurant is situated on a street in the famous red light district, but don’t let that deter you from coming here. It’s a tiny little place but their dishes are huge and packed with flavor. The service is friendly and prompt, almost seems like a group of buddies who decided to open a restaurant together. We ordered the noodles/rice combo stir fry, a noodle soup, and a beef salad. Everything was flavorful and good, but the noodles/rice stir fry was a hit. Basically, they combines fried rice with noodles and added a ton of meat and seafood. I kept on thinking this was an idea of a stoner with the munchies. The prices are fair so you’ll leave with enough money to go «enjoy» other things in the area.

Authentischer Thai in Chinatown.

This was my favorite place to eat in Amsterdam. It’s a hole in the wall and you’ll typically wait at least 10 minutes for a table but well worth it. I only ordered one thing Kwai Tiou Nam with shrimp and it’s the best. Similar to Phở but Thai style. Lots of noodles, shrimp, fish balls and veggies. Great flavor and a very hearty meal. Add just a little bit of their hot sauce for an extra kick, add to much and you’ll pay the price. It’s spicy! It was great considering the wet weather we had while there and the long nights out. A good bowl of soup always does the trick. Waiters are very attentive and food came out quick. It’s also very reasonably priced. I’d highly recommend eating here and I wish I could find a similar place in the states.

Now, as someone who’s been to a few Thai places in Amsterdam, let me tell you that this isn’t some 3 star Michelin deal here. HOWEVER, the price-quality ratio is 100% tummy-filling goodness. I had never even heard about this place until a friend of mine who was visiting from Belgium brought me here just a couple of weeks ago. First noticed by me, was the size of the place. Tiny, but the smells coming from the kitchen soon distracted me from the little space that we had(we were 4) in the corner table. Service was quick, and very friendly. We were probably served within 15 minutes, each of us having ordered an entrée. I shared with my partner and my friend and his sister ordered each their own main course. The Quality was great, for the level of service you get. No-frills, good cheap eating, where the curry comes spicy ;)

€ 15 got me mediocre tofu pad Thai + bottled water. The dish was loaded with yummy veggies but desperately needed more spice and flavor. Definitely not the best Thai food I’ve ever had, but it will suffice if you’re looking for a quick, hearty fix. And quick it will have to be because this restaurant is tiny.

I still have dreams about this place. Probably the best Thai food I’ve had in my life. Don’t bother with the more expensive and fancy sister restaurant next door, this is clearly the place where all the locals go. I had green curry chicken, beef soup and a few other things. All were perfectly balanced with spiciness and flavor. I liked it so much I went back the next day(even though I was only in town for a few days). If and when I return to Amsterdam, Thai Snackbar will be my first stop.
