Sochi’s Sushi

Very good A La Carte sushi in the middle of Hilversum. They are situated right next to SUMO Sushi. We asked if they felt they had to compete to the AYCE Sushi Joint, but they said it wasn’t so bad. They attract different customers then Sumo.
It’s easy to believe: there were actual Japanese people dining there. The sushi was really good, tasty, fresh and yummy. Entourage is nice. Could be a little bit more special, but its homely. Dishes look really nice and professional. There is seating outside too, which is great with good weather!
Serving staff is very nice but quite young, they still have some learning to keep looking around to do. Most of the times, they passed all the tables without making eye-​contact, so visitors would have to shout to get their attention. And that’s not necessary, since it’s not a big restaurant, it’s quite easy to keep looking to see who needs attention.
The only thing you shouldn’t be ordering is. the sea urchin. I tried the sea urchin as a preparation for Japan… and it was disgusting! It’s nothing to do with the restaurant, a friend of mine, big sushi lover, also told he found the taste of it quite horrible. Very bitter and salty. Ewwww. No. No no no. I eat almost anything but this. NO! So don’t ruin your stay here by picking that one. Unless you are a big big big fan of sea urchin. For which I applaud you! I couldn’t stomach it!
BUT. The rest of the sushi was FAB! The handrolls were good too. Yum. When are we going back?

Been here a couple times now and very happy with the quality of the sushi and the meal overall. The lunch bento is a good deal and decently sized.
This place is charming on the inside and out. On a nice day you can’t beat sitting in the sun in their outdoor seating in the front. a great people watching location.
I always prefer the small businesses to the chain ones; so obviously I recommend going here over Sumo next door.

It’s really the best sushi in Hilversum, hands-​down. That it sits next to an all-​you-​can-​eat sushi place and fills-​up first is a testament to how much better it is! I have friends from Amsterdam, and one who worked as a chef at the Okura, who come down to eat here…

Best sushi in Hilversum, everything is fresh and made with love&quality. Definately worth a try!
