Tja, jetzt hab ich die 4. Kaffeemaschine in 2 Jahren…

Tchibo’s «concept» is pretty cool. For anyone unfamiliar with it, it’s a coffee shop that sells other random things, primarily household items and apparel, with the catch that the stock changes weekly. This is a pretty good business model in some respects given that shoppers will feel the urgency to purchase an item they like, since it will be gone the following week. I don’t go to Tchibo for their clothes or household goods, though, but rather for their coffee. I’ve never gone to Tchibo with the express purpose of having a cup of coffee there(on the premises), though, but rather to buy coffee to take home. Their coffee is sold in local grocery stores, but only whole bean.(And, as sad as it is, even a coffee aficionado like myself has yet to purchase another bean grinder since moving to Vienna. over 2 years ago.) So! I’m left with no other option than to buy the beans at a Tchibo store, where they also grind it for you on the spot. This isn’t such a bad option, except that I’ve found some of the people working here to be a bit on the prickly side. That is to say, not so nice. It could be because my German is not the best, and some Austrians are kind of weird about that(even if you speak German, if you don’t speak it *well enough* — well, you may as well not speak it, although that breed of Austrian seems pretty rare. Most really appreciate if you speak German to some extent at/beyond an A2 level, but I’m getting away from this review!) Anyway. I like Tchibo coffee well enough to make it home at drink it most mornings during the week. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s not crap coffee, either. And while there are sometimes nice people working there(the store on Hütteldorfer Straße in the 14th district, for instance, consistently has nice employees), I’m giving this particular store 3 stars instead of 4 because I’ve encountered not-so-nice people on two separate occasions. However, I guess I might be pissy, too, if I worked on Mariahilferstraße. ;-)
