Had lunch, there were six of us. Had the barley with caramelized apples, excellent. Came with a side of 4 salads. It was a lot of food. They were able to accommodate my Vegan friend. Some of my colleagues come here for lunch frequently, they recommended it. Service was excellent and restaurant was clean. The bill for all 6 came to be $ 35US

The idea seems pretty cool. Buckwheat is a pretty traditional polish fare so I was excited to explore the place on my recent visit. The restaurant has both an outdoor and indoor sitting area. It’s pretty casual either. The indoor has a stylish décor. The menu is very long. Almost all dishes have some buckwheat in it, but in some cases you can opt out of buckwheat and replace it with potatoes. We have tried a variety of dishes: both kinds of pierogi, grilled oscypek cheese, baked buckwheat with turkey meat, and ribs. First observation: dishes where buckwheat is an integral part of the dish are way better to try than the dishes where buckwheat is a side dish. Pierogi were nice, the buckwheat was part of the filling but was not overwhelming it. Grilled oscypek was also a nice dish, however this one is really hard to mess up. The ribs were oven broiled, not grilled. They came out super tender, but had a thick layer of fat on them. Probably not my favorite dish, but I’m sure there are people who like this style. The side buckwheat comes from a tray in the bar. It was fine, but I’d prefer not to have the cafeteria style of serving for a 30PLN dish. The baked buckwheat with turkey was actually pretty good. The buckwheat blended nicely with the turkey flavor. Both ribs and turkey bake came with typical sides of cabbage, pickles, etc. Beers were all right. I was happy to see the Kozel on the menu. The Kozel I have had in Prague was probably the best beer in my life. This was the same style, but not exactly the same quality. There about eight different brews of Miloslaw beer to choose from but only two on tap: pilsner and marzen. The rest(including the kozel) was bottled. The bottled beer was fresh. Marzen on tap seemed fresher. So far so good. Which brings me to the final piece, the service. We must have been unlucky to have a dreadful experience. The waitress came with an attitude. Was not particularly helpful with the drinks or the menu(other than critiquing my choice of beers as not proper). She actually came to our table at one point and complained to us because she thought we were making fun of her(we weren’t). When my friend asked her to remind him what types of beers they had, she refused claiming there were too many for her to repeat. After a small tip at the end of the evening she complained loudly to her coworkers. Honestly pretty unique experience. Would have been a solid four star. Two ’cause the service was nasty. I would not go back.

Dobra Kasza Nasza is a Polish restaurant that specializes in kasha(buckwheat). I’ve been to the one in Zakopane. I won’t say I that I’m terribly fond of the dish. It appears to be the most appealing establishment in the Gliwice rynek though, so I decided to come here anyway. The outdoor sitting area was very pleasant. The interior looked classy and tasteful too. As soon as we sat down a waitress came by, offering menus in English or Polish and to take our orders for drinks. Prompt service in Poland – that’s something I always appreciate. I like the microbrew they have on tap as well. Besides their signature dishes, you can order more standard ones like gulasz or porkchop. You get to choose between kasha or potato. I went with the latter and I was quite happy with it. The portions were huge. Just check out that mount of pickles! Obviously, this is not a place for gourmet food but everything was competently made. Prices were somewhat on the high side. I paid 35 zł for my meal. Consider the location though, it was pretty reasonable.
