Krakus is a traditional Polish milk bar. By traditional, I mean from the communist era. Vestiges of that dysfunctional system are still evident here. First of all, the line: It was quite long when I was there. When I reached the counter I was told what I wanted wasn’t available. Barszcz ukrainski? «Nie ma.» Gołąbki? «Nie ma.» I don’t know how they could run out of their headline items in the middle of the day. The food was quite good. My soup was rather lukewarm though. Prices are quite low. One can eat pretty well for less than 15zł here. If you’re want a taste of Poland’s communist past, by all mean give Krakus a try. It’s just a short walk from plac Bohaterów Getta. The menu is Polish only though and I doubt the stern lady at the counter has much patience for bumbling tourists.
