Disappointing – that’s how I’d describe my dining experience at Pepez. I was drawn into this establishment by the sight of their nice terrace on a sunny day. Upon walking in, I discovered the stairs to the upper level have been roped off. Why would a restaurant makes its best tables off limit? As the indoor seating wasn’t terribly nice – the room was really dark – I retreated to the garden. Sitting there turned out not to be terribly pleasant either. Księcia Józefa is a busy road. Noise from passing vehicles was near constant. And since the tables are right next to the driveway, occasionally a car would pass right in front of you. I was disappointed by the food as well. The pizza was too Polish for my taste. Basically, they hold back on the tomato sauce in anticipation of people putting ketchup on top of it. As can be seen in the photo, one can barely discern any sauce beneath the cheese. It’s a matter of cultural preference, of course. The couple sitting next to me were happily dressing their pie with mayonnaise. Seriously, mayo on a pizza. The place does have a certain charm though. It’s hard not to smile at the figurines in the garden. If you look closely – yes, that’s an alien standing in the bushes.
