This is a really lovely place for coffee and some pastries. The café is in a beautiful restored building that is part of an 11th Century monastery. I got a café con leche and loved watching the people in the square outside. Outside seating is available. Great place!

Vous voulez écouter du fado dans un cadre splendide et sans vous ruiner ?
Voici la bonne adresse! Le café occupe une ancienne chapelle, plusieurs fois reconvertie, avant de devenir un café populaire fréquenté aussi bien par des locaux que par les étudiants de la ville et les touristes de passage.
Le fado a lieu tous les soirs à 22 heures pétantes pendant environ 45min/​une heure. Il suffit de commander un petit verre ou un café pour pouvoir s’installer à l’intérieur et écouter un très beau fado. Le chanteur est un homme, tradition de Coimbra.

A low-​key place next to the old Santa Cruz church. In fact, Café Santa Cruz was once a church many centuries ago (and a police station for a while, later…) It serves a variety of snacks, coffee, tea, hard and soft drinks. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays there are performances of Coimbra-​style fado here. There’s no extra charge for the performance, and the café is reasonably-​priced.
