The restaurant is located at the Tenniscourt close to the lighthouse and the mouth of the river Mondego. The owner Rosa Amelia looks like a gypsi and is well known in Figueira da Foz. Rodizio de Marisco is the Most beloved plate for 18 Euros per Person. It is a mixture of different shrimps and seafood and looks amazing.

At the mouth of the Mondego River is the triangular Santa Catarina Fort, briefly used as a base by the Duke of Wellington when he landed to recapture Portugal from Napoleon in 1808. Completed in the 17th century it once formed part of a trio of defences with the forts of Buarcos and Palheiros. Inside, there is a small chapel dedicated to St Catherine which, together with the fort, was classified a national monument in 1961. Forte Santa Catarina is a friendly restaurant near the fort and attached to the town’s tennis club near the beach in Figueira. It’s an excellent place for seafood and fish with a good selection of portuguese wines. Very busy and popular so be sure to book if you can. It’s also possible to play tennis at the club which has really good floodlit courts.
