Rating des Ortes: 4 San Buenaventura (Ventura), CA
Delicious and different, with exotic and sophisticated flavors, but it’s not pretentious at all. It’s Mozambique home cooking on the street. Don’t be scared to order something you are skeptical of because it’s worth the adventure here. The crab is amazing, also the shrimp. The flavors here will remind me of other ethnic dishes, but much more subtle in nature. Beware of the patio on hot sunny days because your beer will get warm quickly and unless you have a full brimmed hat, you’re going to fry. Get there before the sun climbs over the wall or try to get seating under the canopy. But be warned, they are extremely busy so be prepared for slow service and limited seating. Still, if you’re walking around this particularly steep part of Lisbon, Aziz is a great place to recharge.

Wonderful flavors. Uniquely African Indian and Portuguese blended shared dishes. The hot sauce was as advertised really hot. Lamb and shrimp dishes for us and the dessert like we’ve never had before. Highly recommended for adventure eaters and those who enjoy one of a kind dishes.

This place is great, and we were actually here twice today. The first time we were on a food tour, and we stopped in for the meat samosas and a beer. They claim the samosa is the best in Lisbon, and they’re probably right. It’s crispy and packed with well-seasoned meat. When we came back later on our own for dinner, we got all three types of samosas. I still thought the beef was the best, but my wife liked the chicken the best. Even the veggie samosa was really good! All were cooked perfectly too. We ordered some melted macua cheese, which was served with bread, but it wasn’t anything too exciting. It’d be better if the bread were toasted, so I’d stay away from the dish, not because it’s bad, because everything else we tried was a lot better. Save the stomach space – you’ll thank me later. For mains, we had the miamba wa macua, which is shrimp in coconut sauce with palm oil and bananas. It’s awesome over the perfectly cooked rice. We also had the spicy bakra piri piri, which are lamb ribs in a «spicy» sauce. The sauce actually wasn’t spicy, it just had a nice hearty flavor. The lamb was nice and tender, and again the flavors were bang on. This dish was the best of the night IMO. I topped it off with a glass of the house red wine for 1.50 €. Can’t beat that! No desert for us. Service was timely, and the gentleman who helped us spoke great English, which always makes it easier. My only regret is that I couldn’t try the Zambezian chicken, as they had sold out earlier. Go for lunch if you want this. I also recommend making reservations, as we barely got a seat on a Saturday night in January. I doubt you’d be able to walk up and get a table during summer.

Just ok. I Knew I wanted to try when I saw the menu and that it was full of people. Ok — we didn’t make a reservation so I find it normal that had to wait around 30 minutes to get the table. No problem, in the meantime funny tourist tried to still our table so we had a wait with attractions! The main waiter(that told us to wait for the table) was very professional, explaining how much we would have to wait etc. when we got the table another waiter took us over, I must say he didn’t have a clue about the dishes and even if we ordered he came 15 minutes later asking if we ordered! Strange. The food was ok. I tried shrimps with banana and coconut milk. The banana was wired but in general it was tasty.

This was such an awesome and fun food discovery! Los Angeles has lots of ethnic cuisines, but Mozambican isn’t one I’ve had the pleasure of trying before. The Republic of Mozambique, a Southeast African country, was colonized by Portugal in 1505, and only gained its independence in 1975, so the two have deep ties to each other. Cantinho do Aziz seems to be a family affair, and we never would have heard of it had it not been recommended to us by a local. It really is something you have to try for yourself! We didn’t have a reservation, but after 10 minutes, they were able to squeeze us onto an outside table. It was raining, but there were enough umbrellas to keep everyone covered. I’m vegan, and our waitress had limited English, so I went with the most vegan-looking item on the menu, Matapa + Coco Vegetariano. I have to say, I think I nailed it! Granted, it was the only entrée on the menu that was vegetarian, and the only item that didn’t have glowing recommendations written next to it, but I really enjoyed it. I love trying foods from other countries, and if they’re naturally vegan, all the better! African veggies and matapa(cassava leaves and coconut milk cooked into a sauce), over coconut rice? Done. We also ordered fried bananas that came with an aioli on the side. I ignored that and just dunked them into the matapa. We shared a bottle of local white wine that was cheaper than water but soooo delicious. Since I’m fairly confident that what I had was vegan, I’d definitely come back with adventurous foodies. I also can’t wait to try cooking matapa at home. Thanks for the culinary experience, Cantinho do Aziz!

O Cantinho do Aziz reúné algumas dessas características.

No more comments!
