Got an egg tart here and it was actually really good! Not as good as Pasteis de Belem, but acceptable for Lisbon. They make a lot so don’t worry about them running out, and they also serve food. As it’s right next to the castle, make your way over after you look at or visit the castle!

Nata is a popular chain café known for their egg tart pastries. I came here right after I spent a few hours in St Jorge Castle and was starving. I had a delicious bacalao(cod) sandwich and a pastel de nata(egg tart pastry). Although the best pastel can actually be found in Belem, this pastel was pretty good too. The bacalao was spectacular — hearty and good quality drizzled in vinegar and olive oil. Wow. My whole meal was less than 7 euros which blew my mind. Service was so-so but considering it’s location and prices, I’d say it’s an excellent option near the castle.

I tried classic breakfast menu. The food was corret. I read tons of positive opinions about this place so expectations was very high however I found nothing special about it. The nata was tasty.

Yes, the world needs nata. But I’d prefer it to be the ones from Belem. By comparison, this one has too much starch in it, not enough egg, and a tag too sweet. That said, while I am not impressed with its natas, I did enjoy my lunch at this place. It sits right in front of the entrance/exit to the Sao Jorge Castle, and I am surprised how non-touristy this place is. A sandwich here is only € 2.85. And it’s a good sized sandwich, not your 100 Motaditos ones. It’s made with nice bread, meat and cheese, with aragula and cherry tomatoes, with a drizzle of olive oil on top. There are quite a few choices too, from vegan to prosciutto to sardines. You can also get three for a slight discount. They also have caldo verde, the quintessential Portuguese soup, and a variety of interesting drinks, tea, etc. All in all, a surprisingly delicious and affordable meal.

The world definitely needs Nata! We stopped in after touring the Castle Sao Jorge. We were tired and needed to eat something. Our stop was to get a cup of coffee. We decided to also grab a bit of lunch. We ordered tuna salad that was just perfectly done. The tuna was shredded and placed in the salad of greens with a bit of olive oil. We also had a Mazagran drink which was a mild coffee & rum drink that was more like an iced tea. It was perfect for a warm afternoon. Very refreshing.

Oh heaven, thy name is nata. This location is a little oasis from the overpriced tourist fare(spaghetti bolognese anyone?) Besides the melt in your mouth natas — the best I have experience, chain or no, this chain offers toasts with meat, cheese, garlic, in delightfully simple, filling combinations. A great light lunch before or after exploring the castle grounds at the top of the hill. This location also offers ice cream/gelato and has a few outdoor tables.

After a hot day walking around lisboa, I opted for a drink to quench my thirst. I had the groselha which was the red syrup drink. It was alright, different from a lemonade but I can’t quite explain what kind of flavor it has. It wasn’t too sweet atleast. A bit pricey though for the size you get.

We love egg custard, so we wanted to try one out from as many bakeries as we can. The custard here is good, crust is very buttery and crispy, however the inside is a tad too sweet for us. We did enjoy the mint lemonade a lot(not sugary at all). This is also a nice place for people watching(the tourists, the hawkers, and the locals)
