Belmond Reid’s Palace

Ich beziehe mich nur auf den Afternoon Tea (täglich ab 15 Uhr), kann nichts zum Hotel als solches für Übernachtung sagen.
Also: Toll! Ja, der Afternoon Tea ist sauteuer — aber ist es wert! Tee soviel man will (jeder bekommt seine eigene Kanne mit Tee nach Wahl), Sandwiches & Pastries ebenfalls all you can eat. Fantastischer Blick auf Funchal, großartiger Service. Definitiv ein Erlebnis!

An amazing place here in Funchal with a famous history and a powerful Genius Loci! Winston Churchill and others were staying in this hotel. However nowadays for non-​guests it might seem slightly impossible to get there!
If you want to feel a piece of Madeiran history, then definitely make a reservation for an Afternoon Tea (3PM — 5:30PM, approx. 34 €/​person)! It’s an amazing experience and except of the breathtaking views and delicious tea, you will get yummy scones with French butter and marmalade, lovely sandwiches and sweet pastries — all hand made and local! Also ask for a glass of Champagne which is a delicious complement to the tea and your meal!
Hotel have a wonderful Art Deco atmosphere and you can feel it’s history while you are staying here. Also hotel staff is a very warm and polite. Their behavior will bring you back to the Winston Churchill’s times! It’s just an another must see in Funchal!

Wonderful, historic hotel in a breathtaking setting. The staff was very friendly here. I stayed here with a friend for a week in Feb or March 2013.
I especially loved the morning breakfast buffet. The dining room manager (a lady) was very sweet and ran her show very well.
The dining room leads out to the two pools which overlook the ocean. This is a great place to lounge around. There are usually one or two pool workers who will lay out your towel for you and move your lounger if needed.
I went on a tour of the gardens at the hotel and found the grounds impeccable. So many aloe, birds of paradise, and other succulents throughout.
We had a superior room which was very nice and had a lovely balcony with ocean views. I am not sure what the difference between the classic and superior rooms are, perhaps the view. There is a significant price difference so that is something worth looking into.
The Italian restaurant next door, but still on the grounds, is quite lovely.
Of course, don’t forget afternoon tea on the balcony.
At least one of the hotel restaurants requires jackets.
Also, during our visit to Madeira, we used a local taxi guy and paid him by the day to give us tours of the whole island. It usually worked out to about 100 euro/​day.

Very nice interior, the food is excellent and the rooms are also good. I will come again!

Das Reids Palace macht wirklich einen sehr guten Eindruck. Der Garten ist gepflegt und vielfältig (es sollen wohl 9 Gãrtner hier arbeiten). Personal ist sehr aufmerksam und gut geschult, keine billigen Saisonkräfte :-) Der Five o’clock Tea zu 32.50EUR hat mich gestern nicht so toll überzeugt, aber die Poolanlage ist perfekt mit Schatten auf der Wiese und einem Wahnsinnsblick über Funchal (siehe meine Fotos). Das Reids ist auf jeden Fall eine Besuch wert. Ich werde mich bestimmt gern daran erinnern!

Traumhaftes Hotel mit dem Charme vergangener Tage. Der Five o Click Tea auf der Terrasse mit livrierten kellnern und Klavierspieler war wunderbar. Beim nächsten mal verzichten wir vorher aufs Mittagessen, denn es wäre schade die Sandwiches, Törtchen und scones nicht aufzuessen ;-))
